To lighten the mood a bit, I was curious about which apps you guys thought were the most user friendly and had the best interfaces and/or which were the most annoying and least intuitive.... For me, I have to say that OHSU, Stanford, UC Davis and City of Hope were all difficult or annoying in their various ways, while Scripps, Irvine and Caltech were probably the easiest and most straightforward. For example, I liked the Irvine interface and found it easy to use and navigate in while the OHSU app had fields you HAD to put something in, whether relevant or not, and other fields that just seemed to make no sense. I did not like how you had to report all of your science courses basically by hand. This was the case with City of Hope as well. Any comments?

I'm located close to possible interviews as well and have just decided to go along with their activities in the scheduled way. It may save them some money but it also might be extra hassle in the sense of the coordinator having to remember that you are like the one person that won't be at the hotel when probably everyone else will be. I think when in doubt, just ask. I'm sure they've fielded the question before and will give you the best advice. -

Congratulations, elanorci! I agree; whatever the schools didn't get to today, they will probably finish up on Monday. Just sucks that they drag it over the weekend.... Hey!! Another gene therapy buff....you're the only other one I've seen.... -

For anyone interested in a late application deadline, I just got an email from the University of Denver Bio graduate program (MS and Ph.D) so they must still be taking apps. Yay! Congrats! -

Huh? That sounds weird to me. The interview hasn't even happened. I would call and find out if there was some sort of mix up... -

And so goes the flurry of Berkeley rejects....at least we are officially resting in peace now. Not sure what field you guys are in exactly but if it's biomedical, you should also consider hospitals in your respective areas. -

Congrats!! It has really varied for me. Most are on it within the same week of my contacting them, but I'm still waiting for details from Baylor and USC, for example (and USC is next week!). -

It was an email signed off by the chair of the immunology admissions committee stating the single interview date we all know of already, that i will be hosted by the immunology home program, a host student will call me soon, $500 reimbursement for domestic travel, they will send a snail mail interview packet with details and there was this bit about how carefully they reviewed all apps for each of the home programs indicated. and then just the usual stuff about making a faculty list and flight logistics, etc. -

That's true I suppose. I don't know about ranking...some actually take the time to do that? eep. Where does this happen? I always just pictured three piles: the interviews, the wait list and the outs.... -

I understood her to mean 15-18 matriculate. So if it's 80 total and maybe 30-40 offers, that's no so bad I suppose. About 40-50% chance for anyone interviewing. -

Thanks for the sympathy, elanorci. It's probably unlikely but I guess we'll see. Sucks to miss out on a potential interview. And their initial invitation letter was so nice... -

Okay, I wrote to the Irvine program coordinator yesterday and got a response. The recruitment weekends are required for admission and they plan on admitting about 15-18 students out of the 80 odd they will interview each weekend (I'm assuming it's each weekend - she didn't specify this part. If so, that's quite competitive!). She says Skype interviews are unlikely and they will not plan a third event as they will probably be able to pick their class from the crop they've already got.... Sad. But she put me on the wait list for the January event (the one I can go to - I can't do February). I don't suppose there is ANYONE willing to move to the February event instead? Or anyone that has or might have a possible conflict with the January date thereby needing the February one? It might really help me! -

This makes me sad because if they have a March date, I could technically move Baylor from February and accommodate Irvine. But as it's one of my favorites, I don't think I should risk it.... even though the Baylor coordinator has not yet gotten back to me with the promised "early January" itinerary....sigh, this process was just made to be squirm inducing.... Sorry for the multiple posts! Spazz attack over....
