Need motivation to finish the rest of my apps
Adenine_Monarch replied to katiegud's topic in Waiting it Out
I was curious what fellowships you are referring to. One of my regrets about this process is that I didn't look into applying to fellowships sooner...so I missed like the NSF deadline and stuff. Do you know what else is out there that I could look into? Thanks. -

Yeah, I'm happy about the interviews I've already got and up until this morning I was pretty chill about the whole process...but now that it's the end of the week and so close to xmas...and with new programs out more and more...I'm starting to get a little nutty about checking this site.... Bf is ragging on me to stop, lol. Baylor program was IMBS. -

Congrats! I was wondering who that was. Had a heart attack....your app was earlier than mine, though, so maybe I won't hear back just yet. Haven't heard diddly yet today but with several of my programs already sending stuff out...I think it will be a miracle if I don't get something today.... -

LOL, well at least it seems like you haven't lost your sense of humor! All of my invites so far came rather later in the day, so there's that, if it makes you feel any better. My one reject was yesterday early morning, so! They got that off their chest quick... When are the UTSW interview weekends for those of you that have got interviews already? Do any of you know about the Univerisity of Utah? Thanks. -

Well, look at it this way, folks. As stated, I'm not looking at any of my apps/SOPs, but what I HAVE been doing is going over them AFTER I get an interview! And that's kinda fun At that point, finding a mistake is almost cool.

Dunno if any of you are applying to City of Hope, but I talked to the lady there and invites should go out by mid-January or so since their first interview date is Feb. 7. -
How much did applying to grad programs cost you?
Adenine_Monarch replied to Maziana's topic in Waiting it Out
OMG, I probably spent in excess of $1500 just considering it off the top of my head. Will have to sit down at some point when I have more time and calculate the actual figure.... -

So it's been a month since I turned in my UTSW application and still haven't heard anything....although it seems as if several others on here have gotten interviews already....sigh....it was one of the first apps I sent in, too. UW (immunology) is another one that I feel like might be any day now.... *nervous* Seems like other UW depts. have started sending stuff out recently but not them yet so far as I can tell.... eep! -

I'm sorry about your rejection, too. It's got to sting a bit especially as it was your first choice. But think of it this way: if it's really true that your research interests differ a lot from what they specialize in, you probably wouldn't have been as happy once you got there anyway. Good luck with the rest of your schools!

For applicants to Immunology/Microbiology PhD programs
Adenine_Monarch replied to DirtyLabCoat's topic in Biology
Yea, we'll see. WashU seems to be sending out interviews but alls been quiet on the immunology front as far as I can tell.... -
Nope. Wouldn't pay either. There are too many schools out there that fully fund their students.

Oh, I don't even want to know....I'm trying not to even look since it's a done deal at this point anyway. Reviewed my essays even just a bit and found small typos that were somehow invisible the previous dozen times I'd read thru them; probably from reading it so many times and getting lazy Let that be a lesson! Get apps done as early as you can, especially the essays! It's nice to have enough time to actually set your essay down for a day or two, which I think will help with some of the "fatigue reading" type mistakes....

What's the story behind your avatar or username?
Adenine_Monarch replied to katerific's topic in Waiting it Out
Yeah, sorry. I should have said. It is not divided up. Adenine+Monarch as a whole is the anagram for both first and last name (and the capital A and capital M make no difference, either. It doesn't mean those are the starting letters or anything). -
I don't have much to go on yet. One mistake I made was typo-ing my former PI's name when I was assigning him as a recommender for one of my schools. And once I realized I'd typoed, there was no way to change it! So he undoubtedly got the rec request with his typoed name!

Adenine_Monarch replied to katerific's topic in Waiting it Out
Well, I'm a bio nerd hence the "adenine" and "monarch" (as in monarch butterfly) but adenine monarch is also an anagram of my first and last name. I dare anyone to try and figure it out. i'll pay pal you your next app fee if you're successful -
