  1. I'm irrationally devastated every time I hear my phone's email "bing" and its something from work instead of my gmail. Then, whenever my gmail is the cause of the "bing," I'm irrationally angry at whoever/whatever is emailing me because it is never a school.
  2. That's awesome!! Congrats--and what a cool offer with the joint degree! (I am assuming that is you on the results board.)
  3. Ooof--that is some harsh wording. But I'm sure it was a form letter gone astray; I wouldn't dwell on it at all or assume it means anything!
  4. Thanks! I actually did think you were kidding back but after I heard some responses from people on PM referencing your response, thought I'd clarify. At least this served as a nice distraction from waiting for responses. Something the 3 hour conference call I've been on certainly hasn't been able to accomplish.
  5. Out of sheer paranoia now after hearing from a few folks on PM, I want to make sure everyone knew I was kidding--I'd never insult anyone's interests/an interesting and important field of study. Honestly, the only reason I didn't include a winky face or other indicator is because it seemed out of the realm of possibility that anyone would think someone would be so rude.
  6. Definitely call and ask for a timing update. And then tell the rest of us immediately what they say--thanks so much for taking one for the team like that.
  7. I hope everyone knows that I was kidding! Everyone seemed so snippy I thought I'd make light of the broad charges being made.
  8. Anyone planning on studying international relations and/or foreign policy is an idiot. Go.
  9. Me too--they started releasing them on the Thursday/"today" of last year so maybe we'll hear something soon.
  10. Seems like we're all getting a little cranky pants.
  11. To be clear, my strong vote for 'professor' is because this would be the second interaction with this person--someone that you have never met in person and know nothing about their working style/preference--so I vote for the safer choice. NOT because I think there is only one 'right' way to interact with professors.
  12. Well, we've already established that their pants are of the fancy variety.
  13. Hello! I know what you mean...I didn't think I would be this neurotic at all.
  14. Strongly, strongly disagree with the invitation notion from experience in and outside of academia, but if an individual is going to get that uptight about titles anyways maybe its good to mess with them. Unless you are really hoping to get on that person's good side.
  15. Gosh, I would not. Most of my professors in law school signed their names informally but I wouldn't have dreamed of calling them by the first name until they told me--which was always after graduation. Going with professor risks nothing, going with a first name risks offense.
  16. For some reason, this reminded me of the email some of us got about Columbia's MA program and some of us did not. I'm still curious about where that came from and why.
  17. That's my understanding as well--sure hope I did! Ha.
  18. Thanks! I specifically went for less quant-heavy programs and my research interests follow suit. I just tried to sell myself, on that point, as eager to learn.
  19. I'm not sure--and I'm probably overthinking it. I'm a JD who works in politics (currently and throughout law school) but was not a political science major in college. I have a few publications under my belt, but they are very policy-oriented and have all been published in legal journals. I did work as an RA in college for the PS department and in law school I worked for several years as an RA for a book on political theory--but if you want any significant formal quant training, I am not your girl. My letters are all from law professors though one does have a Ph.D. in political science. Basically, I feel like I have a lot to offer in practical experience and can demonstrate a clear dedication to research, but I'm very nervous that my background just isn't political science-y enough for people to take me seriously as a candidate.
