if you're thinking more like psychology of religion, I know that Ara Norenzayan (UBC) and Azim Shariff (University of Oregon) did some amazing work. They are both social psychologist. If you're more interested in the developmental aspect of it, try UT Austin (Kristin Legare).

Social Psychology Fall 2014 Applicants

One of my POIs said that the GRE scores are what they use to eliminate people in the first round. So lets say they have a 150 cut off point, anyone scoring below that will not be considered. But after you pass the first round, its your personal statement that speaks the loudest and the gre will only be used as a tie breaker if there are two eqully strong applicants. -
Thats what I do. I dont live in the US either.

Pros and Cons of being a Professor's First Grad Student?
tingski replied to bezoomny bunburyist's topic in Psychology Forum
My friend had a REALLY bad experience becoming a professor's first grad student. Even when the research idea came from my friend, she did all the work, and she did all the writing, that professor claimed first authorship because according to the prof, supervising my friend takes up the time she could have used on her other projects. I think you should look at that professor's previous publications -- how many does he/she have in the past, how many are under review, were they first authors in those publications. I think that will give you a pretty good idea on how good the professor is, and how competent he/ she is. If she/ he has a lot of first author publications, I don't think she/ he is going to be so driven to claim first authorship on your work; and from my own experience, a competent confident professor is gonna want to teach their students, instead of feeling insecure and wanting to compete with the student. -
A PhD in food technology (nothing surprising there) BUT specializing in chocolate! CHOCOLATE!

Congratulations!!

What is there to lose? UIUC has a really great program and you'll be working with the same professor there, so I dont see a reason why not. Good luck!

Yea id like to know too if anyone heard from u oregon social. -
No. He just said he'll keep in touch with me.

I asked my USC poi about interview weekend and it seems like they want to wait for funding information to come out before deciding on that. At least thats what I understood -- the call was glitchy so I could only catch bits of what he said.

Thats so odd.. did they say if theyre gonna reimburse your travel expenses? What about skype interview? If they insist that you come in person even when they understand your situation, I would think that in the future they will be difficult to work with as well. -
The two people who got ACCEPTED into UIUC developmental program, please PM me. I would like to ask a few questions.
-
I only contacted POIs to ask them if they are taking students. If they state that in the website, I didnt contact them. Don't worry.
-
This will be a Skype interview with the POI -- Now that I think about it, I'm not so sure whether this is a pre-interview or an interview interview. But I'm an international student, so I doubt they will fly me out to sweet amreeka to do the interview weekend. But I'll be doing the Skype chat in a couple of hours -- I'll ask my POI and I will update

Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school

Im an international student and my mom said 'if youre gonna leave the country for so long you better go to harvard. If not its not worth it, just apply again next year.' Its funny but yeah.. no pressure there at all.. -
I did.

Got invited to an interview with USC!

If I don't get accepted anywhere, I think I'll...

Im gonna have to kiss academia goodbye and find a job where I'll get decent money. So sad.. -
One of my POIs emailed me back in december to invite me to interview, and she said she will get back to me in january to let me know how much the school could give me to reimburse my travel expenses (I'm an international student). The interview weekend is set on the last week of january, but she hasn't given me any update. Should I just wait for her to contact me or should I email her to ask about it?
-
Im also waiting to hear about ut austin developmental.
-
If anyone applied to UIUC developmental and has already been accepted, could you PM me? Thanks!
-
Call their graduate secretary, not your POI, and it should be fine.
-
I emailed UBC (I applied to their social/personality) and the secretary simply said that if we make it to the shortlist our POI will contact us. She did say that the interview will be around Feb 14th. I'm guessing it will be similar to the developmental division.
