University of Southern California. My deadline was Dec 1st, but it seems that in a lot of schools the clinical program sends out invites earlier than the non-clinical programs. Might be better to call the school and ask them to be sure
-
Right! Sorry I meant it was the invite for a Skype interview, and then I think after that they have another round of in-person interview, and the invites for the in-person interview has not gone out yet.
-
I just called USC and they said that the invites will go out by the end of Jan/ early Feb.
-
I just called some of the programs I applied to and this is what I found out about interview invites UI Chicago (Social) -- end of Jan, early Feb U Oregon (Social) -- all invites will go out by mid of next week USC (Social) -- end of Jan/ Feb UT Austin (Developmental) -- NOW + next couple of days I believe UMD - College Park (Developmental) and UIUC (developmental) has sent out most of their interview invites, if not all, as I've seen them on the results board.
-
U applied to UT Austin's developmental program and haven't heard anything. I wish the guy who posted on the results board mentioned which program he/ she applied to.
-
Yep. Check the results board. Be warned that it's very addictive.

in this forum (not this thread), someone has posted a long list of interview questions to prepare. Try looking for it, I think it has been bumped to the second page.

Psychology and Music Therapy: Any insight on a good grad school path?
tingski replied to psych_33's topic in Psychology Forum
This might not help much, but are you familiar with Daniel Levitin's research? I find them really interesting. Try to look into that if you dont mind studying music cognition and see if you like it -- if you don't, it could still inform you that you might like the clinical path better! -
I would think that if you go to a US school, your advisor might be somewhat better connected to other professors in the US, which might help a little during job-search. However, if you can get into a top program at a Canadian school, I don't see why that should be a problem. But your advisor might know better since he/ she is already in the field..

Hey I got an invited to an interview weekend for a school. the interview weekend is set on the last week of January, but i just checked the results board, and someone already got accepted! same school, same division! what does this mean? am i overthinking this? i know i'm way overthinking but still, what does it mean? i hate waiting... honestly i'm mentally plucking rose petals while rocking back and forth *they want me, they want me not, they want me, they want me not*.

As long as you get your undergraduate degree from a us/ canadian/ english speaking institution, most schools would automatically waive the TOEFL requirement. Schools in Illinois still require them if you're an international student applying for a teaching assistantship. Go under international student section on the admissions page, they will almost always have the information about TOEFL there.

I think it depends on which program you applied for. I read somewhere (was it in this thread?) that for non-clinical program, most schools invite 1-3 people for each spot, whereas for clinical program, they could invite 5-8 people. Congratulations and good luck!

Thank you so much!

what is the results board?

Hi, does anyone know when schools typically offer interview invitations? I received one, but it makes me wonder if that means i already got (softly) rejected by other schools, or if this one school is particularly early.
-
If I may ask, which school is this interview for?
-
I just submitted my last application of the year. I have another one due on January 1st but I don't want to think about it until it becomes necessary. Good luck everyone!

It is the absolute worst application system, isnt it? One of the schools I'm applying to also has that system, AND THEN in one of the subsections, they wanted us to write about our research interest BRIEFLY and SUCCINCTLY, and so I did 2-3 short paragraphs, thinking that I would be able to submit a more complete personal statement afterwards. I only found out later that the BRIEF AND SUCCINCT research interest IS the personal statement they want us to submit. It's the absolute worst :'( And it was one of the schools I'm really interested in too. sigh.

I'm also applying to Maryland! And I also have to personalize my statement of purpose for that program as it's a bit different from all the other programs I'm applying to. Good luck!

Most psychology departments do not offer a terminal Master's degree, but some Education department do offer M.A. in counseling/ developmental psychology/ educational psychology. Check those out!

I'm finding that a lot of the schools I am applying to do not require a writing sample, but I'm nervous about not submitting them. Would not submitting a writing sample hurt my application in any way? Does anyone know how much admissions committees usually weigh writing samples (those that do not require them) if I submit them, and if I SHOULD submit a writing sample if my GRE scores are 170 verbal, 165 quantitative, and 4.0 (AARRGGHH) writing? I'm not a very strong writer (especially under a timed condition) and I'm afraid that submitting a writing sample when it's not actually required could hurt my application instead of balancing my GRE writing score.

If you're applying to clinical programs, usually the schools would always put up the admissions statistics from the previous years on their websites. You will find information on how many applications they received, how many are offered admissions, how many matriculated, and their average GPA/ GRE.

Hi, a question about the resume/CV -- do you put the non-credit (audited) courses you take, at universities from which you did not receive any degree from? Moreover, if you're asked to give a psychology-related talk in non-academic settings (e.g. community centers) do you list them down as well? Thanks!

Hi, I wonder how much importance do the admission committee place on analytical writing scores. I got 164 for the verbal, 162 for the quantitative, and a sad 3.5 for the writing. Should I retake the GRE? Im planning to apply to PhD programs in social psychology and developmental.
