  1. Thats why you allways read witty in the original german!
  2. No, if you read their stuff, they only started going over applications on the 15th, the actual due date was the second. I submitted mine like 22nd.
  3. I'm pretty sure Boulder closed their doors so that they wouldn't have do deal with all the people applying purely because of the marijuana legalization in Colorado. You know, because smoking weed is pretty much doing philosophy anyway. Right? Right? Yeah I know it's stupid but I deal with people who think drugs = philosophy all the time so I can't help but make fun of it.
  4. This is where analytic philosophy wins, all I need to learn is formal logic
  5. I submitted most of mine pretty late to the deadline for those due December 31st and January 2nd, but pretty ahead for any due afterwards. I still have a few things to follow up on, but I'm done. I wanted to apply to a school due December 15th, but there was no way I was gonna hit that, so I just dropped that school.
  6. I'm already checking email constantly (though mostly just to make sure nobody is emailing me about incomplete admission) and I just want to sleep until febuary/march. So how do you guys plan to keep yourself calm and not stressed until then? I work full time (I'm not currently in school, took a year off because i couldn't afford to apply while in school) so besides that I plan on reading a lot of science fiction, playing video games, and forcing myself to be away from electronic devices connected to the internet as much as possible. Also I'll probably read some philosophy books or two, but not too much. Doing philosophy makes me think about grad admissions, and that I probably won't get in anywhere, and that makes me depressed, which makes me not be able to do philosophy. Also I'm probably gonna drink too much. Gotta be honest with you guys about that...
  7. Most of your statement should be "I'm interested in researching x," and "I want to research y" and "I want to be a philosophy because Z" (and Z is not "I love philosophy, and yeah I had a really hard time with that myself) - Very little of your statement needs to be why you want to go to Rutgers or wherever you are applying too, so don't worry if you don't even say who you want to work with, as long as you show in your interests that Rutgers has people in that area. Also, why wouldn't they want to work with you, you're a brilliant potential grad student, don't think any different even if rejections show up, you gotta stay positive! But also have a backup plan, that...
  8. I sure hope it's better than 2013 for me! 2013 suuuuuuuucked. Let's hope we all find ourselves in graduate schools in 9 months time!
  9. Well we did have this one mentally ill member...
  10. you know I was beginning to think that non-philosophy majors were rather stupid, but thanks for clearing it up that only some of them are!
  11. Guys, I looked over Loric's posting history, and went through old threads. First, Loric is probably a pathological liar, as well as fairly obvious troll. For example, I can't decide if Loric is a she or a he, as the information seems to be contradictory, also there are many accounts of stories that could only be true in some fantasy world, as well as obvious troll threads, like my personal favorite, one about 'grad bang buddies'. As is the best way to treat trolls, we should just leave her/him and their my little pony loving self alone. We have seen already that she/he does not act with reason, nor is susceptible to it, so it's best to leave it alone.
  12. I'm pretty sure a ban is in order fuzzylogic! Ban the brony!
  13. Because we want to give people the BEST CHANCE they have in getting in somewhere. Just because 293 of the 300 people that apply don't get in doesn't mean we should just give up, we need to have the best application we can so that we have the best chance of getting in. People like you are giving bad information, which lessens the chances from absolutely horrible to cosmically damning, and we don't want that. So please, unless you are in fact a philosopher applying to philosophy programs, don't give advice here.
  14. He just submitted some letters today, some on the day that they are due. YAY!
  15. This. If it's relevant enough to include in the actual text, include it, if it isn't, don't footnote it in a personal statement.
  16. Seriously, I really hope nobody is taking their advice. It's generally bad, and never consistent with what philosophers online tend to say. But who knows if its new or not.
  17. Haha, I consider this guy a friend, so I don't want to piss him off too much, but yeah this seems right.
  18. Thanks for the responses, ya'll. Also, does anyone know how to make your letter writer actually write some letters for you?
  19. Yeah for real. I just looked through the FAQ they had, and they say that matching GRE scores to applications can take up to two weeks after submitting application. It's only been like a week, and it has been the holidays and whatnot. Hopefully this won't affect my application being 'incomplete' by the due date, and I'll send an email anyway, probably.
  20. So, I was wondering if anyone here had any information regarding my dilemma. So I have several schools that my applications are in too, all my forms (if applicable) I sent should have arrived, and so forth, but they aren't listed on the account. Like, I submitted Yale's application a week ago, and it still hasn't said my GRE scores are in yet (despite being sent a while ago), and on of my letter writers hasn't submitted his yet (I know, right, it's due in 3 days!!!) So it says 'application incomplete' - but I have done everything I can do, the rest is up to Yale and my professor. Is this going to affect my application? Like if my professor doesn't do something, or Yale doesn't put my GRE scores with my application in time, will my application not be considered complete in time, because that would suck! UUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHH...
  21. I don't expect to get in anywhere. Honestly I wonder why I'm doing this... But I'm fairly pessimistic as a person. I agree with the Kant-Pun guy, it's probably easier if you don't expect to get in somewhere.
