Chance's are this isn't D Findley guy, writing seems off to me...
-
somebody (and not me this time) posted a link to a dfindley thread here on there, so there are probably several of them on here now.

WHATS UP NERD!!!!

So it happened and CU boulder won't be a respectable place to go for years to come, they were right to be worried. I feel bad for them that their dirty laundry became semi-national news, but honestly we don't need programs that foster the problems like they did.
-
I laughed waaaaay to hard at this <3
-
No you were wrong about pretty much everything.

yeah I will be free, but poooooor as crap. So I'll probably try to find a half-way decent job (the one I do now is hourly and doesn't pay much anything more than survival $$$) - Once I do that, I'll start working on some instrumental hip-hop music and writing shitty science fiction novels and just save some money to do random and crazy things. I might try to start a pizzaria one day, since I live in a place without decent pizza and I know how to make decent NY Elite style pizza. I dunno, I don't really want a real backup plan, I just want to live a decent life and I'll figure it out if I don't get in. But hopefully that won't happen to any of us!

Any word on stats/interests/where you are applying too? I understand if you wanna keep it to yourself but it's nice to know what the competition is, lol! Also Good Luck!
-
Email the schools you applied too (preferably the philosophy department itself) and explain the situation. See what advice they have for you. I'm sure a lot of the programs will be understanding!

It sounds that except for a couple of harassers the department was pretty great, like they would socialize after classes and stuff. That sounds great, and I would hope for that, but the couple of absolutely horrible apples ruined it all for the graduate students, and now all that goes away, and they have to struggle with a possible bad reputation (especially if the only faculty in your area was one of them! OH GOD), and so forth. It's such a mess. I'm really glad they decided to end graduate apps until they get it settled out, it sounds like a horrible situation to get into. Man oh Man. I sure hope none of the schools I applied to have anything like this going too. (I applied to Miami but from what I can tell that was just Colin McGinn who is a giant dick anyway)

Man I can't believe I'm excited for Monday (I work a m - f job) because more acceptances will come out! Man this waiting is awful...

What music do you listen to while reading philosophy?
Cottagecheeseman replied to gradcoffee's topic in Philosophy
I have this great ambient station on pandora that only plays dronish music, so it's that or silence. Anything else and I get too distracted. -
Well now I'm going to be really worried....

Okay so mine started out as "WE ARE REVIEWING YOUR APPLICATION. THE STATUS OF YOUR APPLICATION IS UPDATED DAILY AND/OR AS CHANGES OCCUR TO YOUR FILE. BECAUSE OF THE VOLUME OF MATERIALS WE RECEIVE, PLEASE NOTE THAT IT TYPICALLY REQUIRES 8-10 BUSINESS DAYS FROM THE DATE OF RECEIPT FOR DOCUMENTS (SUCH AS TRANSCRIPTS) TO BE PROCESSED INTO YOUR FILE." Then moved to my current one that reads as I posted above, which is that the application is in the first stage of admission. I am assuming that after that it will move to the same as Philosophe which I think we can assume is the last stage of admission before acceptance/denial. DAMMIT YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO THE DEPARTMENT HAS THE FILE OF.. Also USC is a mess. Everything should go straight to the department, it's so much easier that way.
-
I didn't get this email, and I sure hope they have my official transcripts. What do your guys status say at USC? Mine says: "Submitted: Thank you for applying to graduate study at USC. Your file is currently in the first stage of our evaluation process. We will notify you if additional information or materials are required. Please contact your intended academic department directly to make sure all supplemental application materials have been received."

No, but I've seen it listed as a sub metaphysical type of philosophy belief before.

I think this is a similar degree of stupidity like some ex-porn star lecturing me on how vaccines are evil.
-
I don't hold the belief that "it's random" whatever that means. And if my reject list grows, it merely means that the schools I applied to had better candidates than, which is fairly common in philosophy because so there are far more fantastic candidates than there are spots and this is why your advice is horrible. If you do wish to continue to post here, do you think you could stop insulting people and instead focus on what they say? Thank you.

$$$ - I could only apply to so many places and Northwestern got the cut because I liked other places similarly ranked better. I would have been interested in going there for sure, but not enough to take out one of the other places I wanted to apply to as well. -
I know a few people already in grad programs, and they admit that most of their fellow students and them are high-functioning alcoholics.

Wow I like that you named all women. I used Dr. Lackey a ton in my writing sample, she's a pretty great!
