  1. The worst I do is check my email 50 times a day. But that's only up from like 20, because I check it a lot for work anyway.
  2. Rejections will take a while to process, and nobody else has claimed acceptances yet, so it might be a fluke early admission. If you haven't heard yet, and you applied there, don't worry for another couple of weeks.
  3. I actually wish it was. Then my years of survival training, hiking, backpacking, and being raised by rednecks would finally come and handy and I WOULD WIN THAT THING!
  4. OKAY WHO DID THAT. WHO DID THAT.
  5. It's a dual program with classics and philosophy, and it's really sweet program if ancient philosophy is your deal. I'm guessing interviews are more the classics side of things, but who knows maybe Princeton will roll them out for their philosophy phd students too?
  6. Really? They are a fairly low-ranked Phd program, but recently made a shit-ton of great highers, and will probably bump up to at least 25 in the PGR next time it runs around. Also have fairly good placement. And hopefully more to follow!
  7. A U-Conn Storrs acceptance is now posted.
  8. That last hit on your website was from me... (sorry I had to look it up)
  9. Mine was never put online so you can't find it - but a list of graduates with me included does come up so at least they know I actually have a BA lol...
  10. On a random note, I once made the mistake of signing up for academia.edu once and it sends me emails when people google my name and click on the profile. It's happened a couple times over the past few days, and I suspect it's because of applications, so people ARE googling your name with applications!
  11. to be fair, I and a few others expressed regret over submitting our applications close/on the deadlines, but only because we sat there in agony waiting for them to update our files and show that documents had been recieved in time, that they had GRE scores, and to fix any problems before the deadline.
  12. It's been a month since I turned in some of my apps. IT FEELS LIKE ITS BEEN DAMN YEARS!!!!!!
  13. It's still early in Cali, so they might still.
  14. UH OH. I feel your pain. Sadly I think it's only philosophy that has the no official transcripts requirements, but hpefully yours goes through too!
  15. I read somewhere in a link from Leiterreports that I can't find now that the gender difference in philosophy begins at the undergraduate level, despite women outnumbering men in the undergraduate setting, which could explain why there are so few women in grad school and hence the profession in general. Something about philosophy, either the atmosphere, the types of people who generally take, the study itself, (who knows???? No seriously do you know? I want to know!) turns off women early on, which keeps them from becoming philosophy majors and hence philosophy professors. But, I do have to say that though philosophy compared to humanities is very non-gender balanced, it is more on par with the hard sciences (physics, maths, chemistry) in terms of male to female ratio. I don't know why this is so. I hope we find out, but I just want to say this isn't just a problem in philosophy, and it's probably not a problem just because of male sexism in the profession, because though there still is a biased towards men in philosophy, it's definitely not even close to what it has been.
  16. Except for the gas leak year!
  17. Like South America south or Key West south?
  18. Mississippi. If that's not deep south I don't know what is. And I'm from rural VA, which while NOVA (the area near DC) and the cities aren't southern anymore, the rural parts most definitely are. (I grew up near miles of farmland and tons of confederate flags)
  19. My Job ends in early may, and if I do get accepted somewhere I probably won't try to find some more work during that time. I will be super poor though if I don't work, but I would rather be super poor and not have the stress/busyness of a crappy summer job just before starting graduate work. So, what can I do while poor? Probably hike/backpack a bit - it's cheap as long as you have the equiptment. Maybe visit with some family in the deep south, read and whatnot. If I don't get in a program, then it's looking for a full time job for me... oh god I hope I get in somewhere
  20. January 20th! I dunno... it's a monday and I want it to be true...
  21. Haha I feel the same way. Well considering that the school on that big list here that is first and also in my list is rochester, I'm guessing perhaps rochester? Though rochester isn't nearly my first choice, so hopefully it'll be some other schools... You?
  22. Here's what you really need Dfindley! http://bit.ly/1cQueLV
  23. Oh this is getting good! I'm guessing fake but who knows... Loric/Dfindley/someoneelse is probably at it again. Maybe Dfindley will claim it?
  24. The advice I wish I had known is submit your applications as early as possible. That way you can make sure it is complete, all mailed documentation has arrived, and so forth well before you know it has to be complete. I wish I had done that, now I'm sitting there hoping that all my docs got to USC and Miami on time. You don't need to submit it crazy early, but at least like 10 - 15 business days before the actual deadline. Also, spend the summer before working on stuff while you have time. I procrastinated all summer enjoying not being in school, and then when september hit me it was crazy busy getting stuff together, taking and studying for the GRE, and starting to rewrite my writing sample. Also I was going to repeat some of the advice here, they know whats up listen to them!
  25. Philosophy of Food, specefically this: http://fatercism.org/ (if you want to have a good time laughing at people you should click on the link)
