  1. Someone mentioned in another thread that even among the continental schools, the New School has a bad reputation, so that's why. I don't even do continental stuff and I've heard the stories of 10+ years to Phd and very little funding. Congrats on your acceptance, though, I hope it works out good for you and that these are only rumors!
  2. Iowa is also cheaper than Rochester as far as I can tell, so there's that. And yeah, that Rochester place seems kinda weird, and even I (male) would be a little put off by that.
  3. Here's a good question to think about. Are the phd offers you have now offers that you would be excited to take after you have the Phd? If so, it makes sense to take them, as admissions is a crazy business and you never know how it's gonna go. But as you have two good, but not great, phd acceptances, it might make good sense to take the MA.
  4. it's not even common practice for top graduate students to publish in top journals in philosophy.
  5. I know some schools let you accept and then unaccept no questions asked up until April 15th, so if you/thatpersonyouspeakof are in that situation, it makes sense to accept now and take yourself off if you get off the waitlist. Also, if you get into a school after April 15th, having accepted another offer, you may be able to take it and back off the other offer, but it depends on the school.
  6. Sadly, judging from the reports from last year, most of us waitlisters will have to wait till near April 15th... WELCOME TO WAITLIST HELL! *evil laughter*
  7. I really hope we'll be fellow classmates then!
  8. actually, a lot of continental programs do require reading knowledge of languages. A lot more so than the standard Leiter analytic programs. But typically it's just reading level of french or german. I'm not a continentalist, but this I think the best answer for this: if you can't get into a good continental program with your credentials already, to go to a better MA program. There are plenty in canada that do continental philosophy, and in the states Georgia State, Miami Ohio, and a few others have strengths in continental philosophy.
  9. I've heard from several people, including the guy who wait-listed me at UVA that stuff won't happen until close to April 15th. A lot of times people on the waitlist will get a call on April 15th, as people wait until the last day to not accept an offer. So yeah, it'll be a while. YAY WAITLIST HELL!
  10. Man and here I was thinking maybe my low Quant score had something to do with my lack of acceptances. Well damn guys this is the most depressing thread yet.
  11. I love that show. Tracy Morgan is comedic gold.
  12. I've like a veil has been lifted from my eyes.
  13. SO DO I! And after knowing people who went/go to UVA and looking at your acceptances, I can't imagine you going elsewhere, lol, but who knows!
  14. Cool, it's a good place for that. I've met both Merricks and Langsam, and they know that kind of stuff and are really great. You'll probably love UVA, which is bad news for me, but good news for you.
  15. what's your AOI if you don't mind me asking?
  16. I have this dream that I will be there too...
  17. I think they normally give out a few of them. Not sure if they are transferable or not.
  18. I have a complex love/hate relationship with you.
  19. I hope so too! Are you waiting on waitlists as well?
