Really? When I contacted one of my LOR writers about my rejections, she said that she was really surprised that I had heard so early. I think any date before her university sends out decisions is early!
Kotov had never said anything about the professor asking him to follow up, just that s/he would call the professor. Then kotov corrected me. Of course, if someone asked me to follow up at a later date, I would. Otherwise, it's best to sit tight for a while.
Don't. Don't contact him. The ball is now back in his court. Unless he specifically asks you to contact him again after Thursday, don't make any contacts. Even if you're on first-name basis.
I double-DARE you to walk in the history department and ask the people yourself. DOUBLE-DARE!
I was in the city last year during the week that the school was sending out decisions. And... I wimped out.
ARGGHHHH!!! I'm not going to sleep tonight... again?? Last night I couldn't sleep between 4 AM and 6 AM (brain just got very active thinking about a lot of things but not grad school) and I had to oversleep this morning and miss a bit of my class... I just can't do this again when I have one week of class left!
And I just cut my fingernails. Great. Now, where are the chocolates? Germany apparently doesn't do "post-Valentine's Day" sales for candies. Grrr.
Why? Anyone who gets waitlisted SHOULD be happy! Being waitlisted is better than being rejected outright. When I found out that I waitlisted last year, I couldn't stop smiling all day.
AND Columbia's covering some of the cost... Waitlisted people don't get to visit until they've been accepted and offered travel reimbursement.
For strapped schools, most likely not going to work as they're on very tight budgets. Do consider the COL before you move forward. $16K is quite comfortable for Ann Arbor whereas one might suffer a bit on $23K in NYC.
It all depends what you really need. Aside from lower cost, I'm not sure what are the benefits of one year MA program. You would still need to hold off your PhD applications until the following year so you can get some more research experience and secure really good letters. It just depends whether or not you can see yourself taking a year off the following year or so.
E-X-ACT-LY my thought. I want a big chocolate heart with sugar flowers with white frosting saying "ACCEPTED."
Then that would probably be my only chocolate piece that I will never eat in my life because it'll be too damned special!
NYU is notorious for not doing anything for people who aren't admitted. You may have to annoy the department after the 15th of March to find out if you've been rejected or waitlisted.
