This. Everyone is different, of course, but the same life choices that give you maturity and perspective may also impose constraints. If I am fortunate enough to get into a PhD program this year, I'll be taking a whole family with me. New jobs, new schools, new friends. That is an enormous amount of inertia to overcome.
Not everyone is ready for grad school at 22. God knows I wasn't. If you are, there will never be an easier time to go.
Like TMCB, I got that question too. I hadn't thought about it before the interview, and I honestly didn't have a numerical ranking in my head, so I discussed fit. The program in question is a particularly good fit for me, which makes me pretty eager to go there. On the other hand, I also answered truthfully that if they couldn't fund me, I could not seriously consider attending.
I had a nightmare a few weeks ago that one program rejected me because I clearly didn't "get" my POI's Star Wars humor. I am making a full-throated effort to address this deficiency. Just in case
I'm curious about the cost of weekend visits too, xuejia. A friend at UCSD told me that the school covered all of his expenses for the visit. It sounds like maybe that's not typical.
I don't know if this will make any difference in when notifications go out, but I just spotted this on the Wisconsin portal: "City of Madison Declared snow emergency thru 7AM 01/28/14."
A snow emergency in Madison must mean that they are getting seven feet of new powder and the streets aren't fit for a tauntaun.
When the snail mail finally arrived at 12:30, there was nothing but address labels from the March of Dimes, a rabies shot reminder from the vet, and a very premature solicitation from the AARP.

According to my carrier, the trail is fully covered. I'm turning off all notifications except the email address I used for admissions. This way I don't have to touch my phone unless something comes in to that account.
My friend in Madison just told me that the wind chill will make it feel like 40 below zero there on Monday. Brr!
Is there any reason to feverishly check email/websites over the weekend? Do any schools generate emails or update their websites on Saturday or Sunday? It's a gorgeous day for a hike here on the left side of the country.
(About to check AT&T's coverage map... maybe the trail has 4G and I don't have to choose!)
I have a wine map of France that's designed to look like a NYC subway map. It makes me ridiculously happy.
(P.S. My bottle count is .5 for today. My husband thought Prosecco would take my mind off Wisconsin)
