Yeah, all but Cornell of my applied-to programs historically gets posted between now and two and a half weeks or so. I haven't been checking my applications' status often in the past, but I've been giving it a daily check now. Only thing I've heard so far is Drexel, and that application responded exceptionally early. I think I heard back a week after the deadline (about a month ago now).

It could mean many things. Sometimes it means that the department has recommended to the graduate college that you should be accepted. Sometimes the adcom has recommended to the chair of the department that you should be accepted. Who knows, really. Whatever the case, I think it's a good sign.

I was told they'd have decisions for PopC around late February. We've already made it one third of the way through the month. I do have to admit that I'm getting somewhat bored. I don't like to be bored.
-
I'm sure it's fine. Have you checked class schedules to make sure he/she isn't teaching right now?

King Cake. Happy Mardis Gras!

You know what I did? Go buy the cheapest box fan you can find. The cheaper the better. Box fans are advertised with silence as a positive, but cheap ones are usually noisy as hell. My neighbor might be watching a movie on the other side of the wall, yet I hear nothing. It's wonderful. @anthrostudentcyn, Congrats! Hope it goes well!

Oh, look, someone got into ASU. Congrats! It looked like an awesome program when I checked it out months ago, but it didn't really align with my interests enough to warrant applying.

I agree! Sounds pretty fascinating. Also, very fascinating! Hopefully we all go onto get our PhDs and write some good books.

I really wish I had some good advice, but how I deal with my anxiety is pretty boring (and not necessarily very effective). Drink of lot of chamomile tea. Do things I enjoy. Remove things around me that I do not enjoy. Meditate. Take a walk. Exercise. None of these eliminate my anxiety if it flares up badly, but they help. I just try to keep myself really busy. Doing things that I like, or at least occupy my mind. Like I said, kind of poor advice. It's like saying, "Don't have anxiety." I'm just not sure what other advice to give.

My pleasure! I should also clarify, by "I'm not going there" I mean "I'm not attending there currently". I reread that and it sounded like I didn't want to go there. Oops!

Wow, that program sounds really interesting! What are your interests?
-
Nope, but Cornell usually doesn't let anyone know until it's usually March. Sometimes mid March. We have a while to wait. There's several of us waiting.

I'm not in art history, mind your, so I'm not sure of the conventions, but I'd always address them as Dr. "Suchorsuch". Not sure if I'm brave enough to risk offending someone.

Ugh. Mortgage. I knew I was going to apply to graduate programs, so we sold our house about a year and a half ago now. It was a very long and messy process. I really feel for you. Have you considered getting a hyper cheap tiny house? I've seriously considered looking into this specific house if I had to commute to make my graduate life possible. The video was posted three years ago, but back then this house only cost $6500. Crazy, right?

I'm pretty sure hear back from all but Cornell in the next two weeks. Cornell STS doesn't send out acceptances often until mid March, if results are to be trusted. Ugh. I'm so jealous of the sciences. They've pretty much all heard back at this point.

I'm 32 here (will be 33 when I begin). Married with kid. I think there's more of us over 30 than one would probably guess. I feel that age helps build the discipline necessary to begin a rigorous education. Sure, plenty of younger people can handle it, but I think many more older people can.

I certainly hope so! I'm starting to get impatient. Congrats to the Yale admit! I still think getting into a good program is akin to winning the lottery. It's a big accomplishment!

I'm not going there, but I've applied and visited for a different program. As stated before, it's very cheap (by a lot of standards). I was told a two bedroom apartment was in the 600-700 range. If you were frugal, I definitely think 14,000 would suffice, comfortable even, perhaps. And the indoor spaces of the campus are actually quiet lovely. I could easily see myself spending an entire day inside of the union. The union felt like an airport (e.g., you'd rarely have to leave the building). Also, their arts center is gorgeous. It's difficult to grasp the scale of that building. If you look real close you can see a fairly large entry door or two. I can't really say much else, to be honest. My visit was only a few days, and I was busy for all of it. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Should I Talk about The Offer I Already Got in an Interview?
Neist replied to 1gdmz's topic in Interviews and Visits
I agree. If all schools are equal, I would tell them, if asked. I mean, if you already have a solid offer, and you have no preference, there's no harm in telling them. -

I certainly wouldn't lie, if asked. Which program do you want to go to more? The one you've been accepted into or the one you have an interview for? -
Out of curiosity, how big is the entomology world? Also, congrats! I'm not even sure how many entomology graduate programs exist.
-
That sucks. Sorry to hear that. Well, at least they were polite enough to inform you. That doesn't always seem to be the case.

Traffic in here certainly slowed. We're all anxiously waiting, I suppose?

Funny you should mention bad sleep. I went to a happy hour on Friday while I graded papers. Ate a burger. I was pleased with myself. I only ended up grading papers for a few hours and then just sat and enjoyed myself drinking cheap beer. At that point I was pretty tired, so I went to bed fairly early. For whatever reason, I woke up, unable to return to sleep, at 2:30 that morning. Not being able to sleep is annoying, but not being able to sleep while slightly intoxicated is something I've never experienced before. Ugh. So unpleasant.

Thanks for the heads up, and congrats! So your status was updated on the website? Good to hear! I was wondering about that. Mine has been at "Submitted" every since I submitted it. I was starting to wonder if it changed at all. I'm assume you're talking about the status check here, correct? https://apply.rpi.edu/account/login Again, congrats! @Logik, I just noticed that your field is the Cold War and the cultural history of technology. What are you interested in specifically? It's not my field of focus, but I have more than a passing interest in that field. Call it a hobby.
