I think that if you feel it will be super convenient the first year then to go for it. I mean there are some advantages to on campus housing especially if you are new to the city. I think it could help with a transition a lot. I have a question as well. My housing status changed from waitlist to guaranteed but not renewable. I know grad housing is supposedly for the first year only. But does this change mean that I am going to be offered the chance to stay on campus the first year? I haven't gotten anything via mail or by email about it.
  3. well i spoke with someone at nyu and they said its disbursed (1/2) in august. I'm also ny bound :-) You may want to have him call the financial aid office though, or shoot them an email.

going to nyu in the fall too. I was thinking the same thing about housing, it doesn't really look promising. I saw that I'm on the housing waitlist. I don't think it will come through though so I plan to start looking for a studio end of jul beginning of aug. I doubt I'll be living close to nyu though so a commute it will be for me :-(
  5. Yeah I'm sure its just a typo, but it was funny and the last thing I expected to read. However, I have no intentions on going to that school. It was the my last choice in the first place so its not just because they made the typo. However, they did take way way long to send anything.
  6. I just got an admit in the mail today later than expected. Anyway, I'm all happy when I open the letter and see congratulations _____ you've been accepted into.... then I read Sports Management program and I'm like huh? I didn't apply for any sports management program. I don't even see how a sports management program would even be in the department that I did apply too. Crazy!
  7. I wanted to update this thread for others next year or whenever who maybe in the same situation. Well, I wrote my SOP without mentioning the first college bad grades or the circumstances. I made my SOP be really where adcom's could get to know who I was now, positive things, etc... I wrote an optional essay addressing my first year grades. It was really short and got to the point, I addressed the bad grades, expressed that I wouldn't make any excuses for them, and moved on to positive things. I stated that I knew ad coms wanted all transcripts to discover any academic trends and that they would notice an immediate trend where I maintained a 3.5 and above at all schools attended since then, etc.. etc.. I also stated that although not good my first year of college helped to shape and mold who I am today, by teaching me valuable life lessons... Well, it seemed to have worked for me, so maybe it will work for someone else in the future!
  8. That's jacked up. The one university that I'm waiting on and applied to in January still has my app listed as incomplete. I've just given up on them. All of the materials that couldn't be completed online were sent in one package (and it was received by them 3 days after sending it b/c I had delivery confirmation). They said they received some of the documents and the others they have not received. Ummmm how??? They were all together! Every time I emailed them I received a generic response that due to large volume of applicants it would take longer for applications to show as complete. I just decided not to even try resending the documents that they show as not received. Based on their copy and pasted replies I'm just not even interested in attending. Definite $80 waste so I understand. However, it just seems like they wasted the O.P's time...
  9. moahb The process was explained to me by nyu the same exact way that you described it. So I believe that you are correct in how you broke down the amounts. pea-jay I read that you can still borrow under the direct plus grad loan with a judgment or bankruptcy older than 5 years. So I think you'd be okay, you might want to ask your financial aid office. I have a collection acct from 6 years ago (I was a financially dumb when I was 18 seriously don't even ask). I saved the money to pay it off, but I'm afraid if I pay it, that it will stay on my report for 7 more years saying its a bad satisfied debt :-( I'm going to call the direct servicing and ask them if I should pay it before I apply for the plus loan or if I should apply first and wait for a decision from them. Because I'm not sure if debts older than 5 years count period. I don't know. Anyone have experience with that?
  10. Thanks! I sent an email to the school I haven't heard from yet. Hopefully, I'll get a decision soon and I hope you do too!
  11. Hi! I am waiting for one school who is not giving an admit until after 4/15. (I applied in the second round) Meanwhile I have an admit that wants a answer/reply before then. I really want to go to the program that is not giving the decision until after 4/15. So I have two issues. I need to ask one program to give me an exact time frame that I should have the decision by. On the other hand I need to ask the one I have an admit for to give me more time to give them an answer on whether I will attend. How would you all handle this? Thanks for any suggestions!
  12. Yep, I'm glad for the email as it does at least let me know where I stand. However, I wish the official letter would hurry up and come!
  13. It's Academic and you're right its out of my hands because I've already mailed it off! If the worst that could happen is that they contact my rec, then I should be good to go. My rec won't mind and would speak highly of me. I've decided to not even worry about it. I think it will be fine. Also, the letter may have been on letterhead, so hopefully it was. Thanks for the replies!
  14. I think it depends on the school. Perhaps also how conservative the school is as someone already mentioned. I took a business course at Liberty U and I personally wouldn't take another class there. I am also SO not Christian, but I do appreciate the study of the Bible. However, if I sign up for a business class, I don't want to have to interpret the bible or provide supporting evidence from the Bible about such Business topics. So it depends on the school and you specifically. If you can visit, I would say visit. myoung84, Fordham is an Jesuit University but I believe its Liberal also...
  15. I'm not sure how they would know, unless your transcripts from other schools thereafter list transfer credits. In that case, the transcript usually list where the credit(s) was transferred from. Also, I think schools get a copy of your federal financial aid record. I could be wrong, but I think the record shows the schools that you have received financial aid at. So if this applies then I guess they could know that way. I think its worth it to just send all transcripts though.
