  1. MIT here too! Hooray! Is anyone else going to the third interview weekend? I have conflicts for the others... Still haven't heard from Berkeley Biophysics or Stanford Genetics (or Harvard Biophysics, but they don't interview). C'mon, California! You're killing me!
  2. Congrats adenine!!!! That's awesome!!! You definitely deserve this after all the stupidity with Irvine
  3. That's rough, adenine_monarch. I'm surprised they're not more accommodating - that seems really harsh of them... I hope it works out for you! (:
  4. I'm going to be sad if I get through this entire week, which I thought was supposed to bring so much news (either good or bad), without hearing anything... ):
  5. I sure as heck hope that schools that send out interview invites later in the season understand that they have to be accommodating... It's impossible for us to save interview weekends for schools that we haven't heard from yet if we have a real interview offer in hand from somewhere else. All this to say that I will be taking the later interview weekends without hesitation if I get any other interviews, because my Jan/Feb is already super busy (and I only have 4)!
  6. Has anyone else heard from MIT? One result was posted today but apparently nothing else. I haven't heard anything ):
  7. Someone just reported an MIT biology interview. Aaaah
  8. Congrats!! What department home program at Stanford did you apply to? And congrats to you, SystemsBio!!
  9. I'm thinking that this might be a troll. Last night, someone posted an, ahem, rude result that was something to the effect of: "who reported my earlier post?? [many naughty words]" under the label of Stanford Biosci... So given all the weirdness we've had with those results recently, I'm thinking this might be that person, who is just some kind of troll. Then again, maybe not. But I find it weird that they'd call to notify rejected applicants.
  10. Netflix. Lots of Netflix. I'm working my way through Futurama. After that, I'll start on the new season of Downton Abbey!
  11. I applied to some biophysics programs and found that what "biophysics" means varies widely by school. At some places it basically means conventional membrane dynamics and protein folding; at others, like Harvard, it includes computational approaches to a much broader variety of biological phenomena, like genomics and neuroscience. I'd suggest looking into specific programs rather than seeking a blanket term - I ended up applying to a wide range of programs including general biology, biophysics, and genetics, because the terminology varied so much from school to school. good luck (:
  12. Thanks for calling, sparklescience and Orims! That's enough of an answer for me. At least I know I can stop worrying about this until Friday at the earliest. (:
  13. Agreed!! Literally every annoying thing I've dealt with this season has been at a California school. And now 2/3 schools that I'm STILL waiting to hear from are there... Ugh.
  14. Seems like we have conflicting information? Although the fact that everyone will get a letter doesn't mean that people selected for interviews WON'T get an email. Maybe everyone gets a letter, but people who need to schedule interviews also get an email.
  15. Wait, why do you think we find out about Stanford through snail mail? Last year all the posted interviews were email or phone?? EDIT I just saw the results page post. I have to say that I'm skeptical that there will be no email notification. How are we supposed to schedule interviews without email contact?... It also seems extremely unlikely that they would have reverted /back/ to snail mail after apparently years of email?
  16. Still nothing from MIT, Stanford, or Berkeley... It's particularly annoying waiting to hear from California schools because their work day ends so much later than mine, so I can't even quit worrying at 5 every day
  17. I haven't heard anything this week either. Any other Stanford Genetics applicants here?
  18. Someone posted on the results page that they called MIT and were told that the committee is meeting today and tomorrow and will be sending interview invites "throughout the week." Still nothing here either. This week is gonna be rough in terms of waiting. EDIT: to clarify, MIT Biology.
  19. Awesome, thanks! Stanford and MIT both this week... Scary :/ Best of luck with your application! I hope you get great news this time
  20. Does anyone have any extra info about when we might expect to hear from MIT other than "mid-January" as per their website? Last year it seems that most responses went out between 8th and 11th, so that's what I'm expecting, but has anyone heard anything else? Big week coming up indeed. Good luck to all
  21. Happy New Year, all! From results search, it seems like my remaining programs all sent out interview invites on Jan. 7 - 9 last year... I think I'm going to have to do some serious TV watching this week to distract myself. New season of Downton Abbey, anyone?
  22. Not that I know of, but I was planning to recheck their websites, as I almost missed that Princeton wants them...! I'll post here if I find any (: @fun_cookie Congrats! I'm in a similar situation: QCB only offered me one weekend and I can't make it. I emailed back and asked if I could attend on an alternate weekend after explaining that I had another interview scheduled for that weekend and the flights are already booked. I think that it's pretty common for people to have conflicts (there are only ~6 weekends in this period, and most of us applied to more schools than that), so I'm hoping that they'll be accommodating (:
  23. Actually that one wasn't me -- but that did cause me to check my email and to then see my invite, haha. That's so nice of you, though Edit: /now/ mine is up
