  1. I am not sure if the adcom read this board, but if they do, it might hurt your chances at Stanford but there is no doubt that crappy economy factored in my decision to go to grad school as well lol. btw I go to Fresno St, we're like neighbors
  2. International or not, the biggest factor right now is the economy - -; California is hurting bad, I had 1 interview after applying to 30 firms... I'm not sure about this, but you might need residency in order to get licensed
  3. did you guys apply for a terminal degree M.Eng or MS? Berkeley's structural and environmental department is juggernaut, they publish so many papers it's ridiculous. but Stanford campus has more of a graduate school "feel" to it, for a lot more money of course. In fact, even their application fee was the highest of all schools I've applied to.
  4. Moghi I'm in the same situation as you... waiting for UCB and Stanford. apparently Berkeley emails out notifications and Stanford uses snail mail. I'm probably getting ahead of myself...but would you guys rather go to UCB or Stanford? (assume no fundings for MS, at least that's what comp_math and a few graduate students told me). are you guys studying structural engineering? @espoir, UT Austin sent me admissions a few days ago.

  6. civil engineering, u?

  7. I'm waiting on Irvine too :(

  8. There has been a lack of civil engineering discussion on this board, I hope this thread will band everyone together! to the poster, I think you have an excellent chance of getting admission from all the schools you mentioned. hopefully schools can send out results faster, like Northwestern USC or UIUC!
  9. I applied to the structural engineering sm, if I get admitted I will shit my pants and tell everyone about it!
  10. I'll join the military...mebe not...shit I don't have a plan B
  11. I need a lab (1 unit) to graduate... but I'll take lotza classes just for giggles statistics numerical analysis partial differential equation matlab masonry design concrete lab social dance(??) maybe I'll drop a few of em first week of the semester.
  12. This thread is total awesomeness. here's mah predictions app'd 8 schools admits =3 (1 from dream school, 2 from good schools) denies =5 funding = $0.00 I will offer my blood to the admission god and say alot of prayers and do good deeds, mebe admit numbers will go up that way.
  13. My professor sent in his recommendation letter online, but it's not reflecting on UCB's "application status" page, I contacted the department and they told me they can't answer questions about whether supplemental documents have arrived or not, because they're too busy. lol? they weren't busy when they collected my application fee. anyone else have a similar problem?
  14. if you want to work in the government, a degree from anywhere is fine, as long you go on and get your PE. But if your goal is to work in a top tier structural consulting firm, it is better if you get a masters degree from a research university. I google'd some consulting firms in the SF and LA area, almost all of their principals graduated from UC's, USC and Stanford with a masters degree. Of course there is exception to everything, best of luck.
  15. Hmm... a few weeks ago I got admitted into the Civil Engineering Masters program at USC (I applied for PhD) I have slightly lower GPA than yours, and no research experience. Granted EE admission is more selective, but I'm sure you'll be competitive in all the schools you've mentioned.
  16. I'm sure similar questions have been asked before, but I'm a total newbie, so please help. I just got an admission from USC and I can't afford it. I applied for TA, RA and fellowships but I didn't hear anything. Do schools send out admission and funding packages at the same time? How does financial aid work, do I fill out my FAFSA after I decide which school I want to go? how do I get the $$$ for expensive private institutions? help!
  17. I tried to request additional GRE scores online and it wouldn't let me no matter what I do, is this normal? I used the phone service to request scores yesterday, but I haven't gotten a confirmation email, is this normal? how long does it take for them to send out the scores? ETS sucks!
  18. Talk to the people in your inner circle, talk to your professors, mentors before you make you decision. Mechanical Engineering has a very very broad field, maybe you can look into research in a different topic.
  19. UCD and UCSD are wonderful schools. I don't think you need three semester of pre-req classes. good luck
  20. I'm a student at CSU Fresno, I'm also gonna be applying to Structural Engineering programs. I did some research, and I think it's to your benefit to do graduate work at a research University, ones that grant PhD degrees. Cal Poly is a wonderful school, but if you want to get your MS, you might as well do it at Sac State. my 2 cents.
  21. Canty2, thanks so much for your response. I decided not to take the GRE for the 3rd time, instead, I'll work on my personal statement and apply to a few more schools to increase my admission chances.
  22. GPA 3.56 (major GPA 3.9) GRE1: Q790 V400 AWA 4 GRE2: Q740 V550 AWA 4 I'm in a few clubs and I'm volunteering at California Transportation Department, no research exp. I'll be applying to the MS program at top schools like Berkeley, Stanford, MIT, what are my chances? should I retake GRE? If I mention that I want to pursue a PhD(although I'm still undecided) would that increase my admission chances? thanks!!
