I accepted UTSW's offer of admission today as well!! It feels amazing after completing this long, arduous process (twice). Best of luck to everyone else out there! -

This impending winter storm has thwarted my last interview weekend attempt. Oh well, guess I know where I'm going!! Good luck and safe travels to all venturing out this weekend! -

Dear ______, As you are aware, I had planned on visiting the XYZ program the weekend of ___. I regret to inform you that my circumstances have changed and I will no longer be in attendance, thus I am withdrawing my application. Thank you so very much for considering me for the program. Warm Regards, rat.girl -

I second this. I just bowed out of my last interview weekend because I've already found and been accepted to a school I absolutely love. I didn't want to waste any of their time (or any more of my PTO) by visiting somewhere I am no longer excited about. -

Are you making it out there okay? My flight was cancelled and so now I'm waiting for my re-scheduled route to begin. -

From my own personal experience, it has a lot to do with program fit and if you can really articulate your past research experiences. However, interviewing more than a month after initial recruitment weekends can also have an impact (they say it doesn't but really… the acceptances are probably all decided). Also, I interviewed at a program last year where I felt really out of my league. It was as if they had invited a few applicants just to invite many more people than would ever be accepted..but I could just be imagining things. -

Yay Cancer Bio! As for getting invites from two different departments, I don't think it would be that unusual. They are very separate entities and there probably isn't too much crosstalk between them. Case in point, I applied to two programs at the same school last year and got interview invites for both. -

I second this. Last year I applied to 10 schools, interviewed at 4, was accepted at 1 (that I didn't end up liking) and rejected by the rest. I've spent my gap year as a technician in my undergrad lab and it has been absolutely awesome. Waiting a year if you have to is most definitely not the end of the world and you'll actually have some time to do fun things!
