  1. So I just contacted the graduate school executive assistant and she responded right away, which is weird for a Saturday. She asked if I had contacted the Philosophy department directly, I told her I had and hadn't yet heard back. She said she would follow up with them and get me an answer by Friday.
  2. Thanks for the information, Coggy. I only emailed the philosophy secretary because she was my point of contact before; it didn't even occur to me to message the graduate school instead. I'll do so now. Thanks again!
  3. As a fellow non-drinker, I feel your pain. Try video games and netflix.
  4. Sure thing, I'll post if I hear anything new. I'm also with you in pursuing a refund and fully intend to make myself heard until I get my money back. That being said, I also understand that they have a lot of things going on, so I'm very willing to be patient. I just don't want it to get swept under the rug.
  5. A little more than a month ago, the graduate secretary said she would "let me know when the committee has come to a decision regarding GRE fee refunds." A few of us emailed again earlier this week, and I have not received any response to that email.
  6. I second this. Also, why is CU graded so high on the PGR? Their philosophy program is clearly a mess and apparently has been for some time. This makes me really distrust the PGR...
  7. I'm female and CU was my top choice. I had absolutely no idea anything like this was going on, and I am very close with my letter writers, so if they had known, they would have told me. I'm so glad I dodged that bullet.
  8. Got my email from Edinburgh. I cannot express how relieved I feel that no matter what else I hear, I will have somewhere to go next year!
  9. If either of the two acceptances to UConn see this, please let us know some more information! Thanks!
  10. My letter writers and I are quite close (I went to a really small school with a small program and I'm still local). We go out to dinner as a department about once a month, and I plan on paying their bill.
  11. Really hoping to hear some more results come out of UConn, and maybe Edinburgh?
  12. Representative from Philosophy, here. We've lost all perspective and are obsessing, too.
  13. I have gym socks (ankle length) and winter socks. I don't usually rewear gym socks because they smell, but winter socks I rewear until they are noticeably smelly or dirty, which takes a while. I'm also usually wearing them over tights/fleece tights so maybe they're cleaner that way?
  14. I don't know if everyone else noticed this and I'm just late to the party, but...Dfindley is gone. As in, no account gone. O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
  15. Thanks, Axiomness!
  16. Same here, Shulie. Welp, it's Friday past 5. I'm going to try to stay off gradcafe and email for the weekend. Even though I know there will be no news, it will still be tough to break the habit... Have a great weekend everyone
  17. Yeah, you're right, it is. I'm just going to email them; I don't have much to lose by doing so.
  18. Has anyone heard back from Boulder about GRE fees yet? Last we spoke, the secretary said she would contact me when they had made a decision. I don't want to pester her, but it's been more than a month now, and I could really really use the $20...
  19. That happened to me with CU Boulder this year. I submitted my application in late November, and by mid-December (about two weeks before their deadline) they sent me an email saying that due to "complex internal restructuring" of the department, they would be unable to take any new people into the program. I got my application fee refunded but I'm out the $20 I spent to send my GRE scores to them...
  20. Oh my god, I applied to UConn Storrs and haven't heard anything yet and I'm FREAKING OUT AHHHHH. I know you all understand. Getting into a PhD program is basically the Hunger Games.
  21. Oh, I am. I have a sticky note with my login info to each application and I just go down the list every day...
  22. Congrats to the Ohio State poster!
  23. Me too, my friend, me too. And I likely won't hear back from my first school until mid to late February. Not that that stops me from checking everything every hour...
  24. Ah, I hadn't seen either of these! So relevant...
  25. Lady philosophy applicant, here! Glad to see my fellow male philosophers are so supportive
