  1. I feel the department is out of the rough patch they experienced during the early to mid 2000s. On my visit, faculty and students made it a point to address this history and that they feel they are back on track. In terms of political economy, t Eric Sheppard and Helga Leitner leaving was huge. Recent hiring though, in feminist political economy and cultural geography, are a definite step in the right direction. In my opinion, things seem to be thin in terms of faculty and number of students on the physical geography side. But overall, the department recently hired 3 new faculty which is a good sign. I will be attending in the Fall!!!
  2. Yup Yup! University of Minnesota!!! I got a 24K fellowship with no TA or RA commitments! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!
  3. Moving back to Texas, Recruitment Weekend, The South for 3 Month, Graduate School in July

  4. Unless the heterosexual male, or cis-man, in women studies, takes on feminist praxis regarding methods, research, and theory, it's kind of pointless to be in women studies. Without an implicit dedication to feminist praxis, the heterosexual male, or cis-man, in women studies, is a voyeur.
  5. University of Washington came in today! I am so happy I didn't get in!! Good luck to everyone!!!
  6. I reached out to several faculty but wasn't able to make a visit which usually kills the admissions process in my opinion. I received positive feedback on my Statement of Purpose though. But, I feel my focus on women of color and queer ontologies/epistemologies doesn't fit well with the department.
  7. I was doing policy work for the County of Los Angeles around substance abuse and it was bad! I had a cool team but the work was pretty uneventful. Apparently, most cities are into low cost alcohol and substance abuse policies! The work I have been doing related to my research interests has been working with self-identified men to address their abuses of male privilege and patriarchy in interpersonal spaces. Epic work! Also, I got into the University of Minnesota! So I am happy about that!! I am glad people are still into changing the world! That makes me smile!!
  8. Hello Everyone! I am applying to the University of Minnesota, University of British Columbia, University of Washington, and University of Toronto! I have very crappy GRE scores, I work for the county of Los Angeles as a Data Analysis and I work on Critical Masculinity, Spatial Theory, and Political Economy with various Southern California social justice movements! What are people's research interests?
