  1. using the chemistry you learned? great!
  2. Your letters of rec. weren't strong enough compared to other applicants. Talk to your letter writers if you want to know more would be my advice. Or if you already know they weren't strong letters of rec. then develop stronger relationships with them or find other letter writers next time before re-applying if you so choose. Good luck!
  3. I agree with asaprocky. I don't know about the whole brand name thing with Duke because both UBC and McGill are respected internationally, too. I think the three programs are comparable in terms of rankings/reputation so just go with your gut on this one
  4. It's finals week here, and I have a pchem and biochem final tomorrow (back-to-back)...but I've already been accepted somewhere so I just need to pass
  5. I would say go for it if it was any other university, but you're talking about Stanford here. Unless you really have some strong personal connections with the department that could help you pull some strings, I really don't see them making an exception. An institution like Stanford won't be complicit with your plans to transfer from another institution while you're away on your Fulbright -- they have a reputation to uphold and it's absurd to think they would be willing to go along with this for a prospective graduate student. However, as others have said, you're a strong applicant and probably have a good shot when you decide to officially apply to the school. Best of luck!
  6. Don't know if anyone is still waiting to hear back from UT-SW but got an email today saying they've basically extended all interviews and are aiming for an incoming class of about 60.
  7. Anyone have updates for Wisconsin -- Chemical biology track?
  8. I'm living here right now and actually share a 2 bedroom apartment with another guy in an apartment complex with mostly graduate students/post-docs. I pay about $700 for my own bedroom, not including utilities or anything. I would say $800 a month is definitely do-able and pretty much everyone, including professors, bikes to get around here. From my experience, I've found the closer you live to downtown Davis and the campus, the older the buildings tend to be. Another option is to consider living in downtown/midtown Sacramento and driving or taking the Amtrak train over to campus -- this could take anywhere from 20-45 mins depending on traffic if you're driving. Check out http://daviswiki.org/ for lots of useful information.
  9. I'll be going to a visitation weekend later this month. Hopefully I won't freeze to death.
  10. Would you happen to know anything about the chemical biology program? Thanks.
  11. I did not apply to the program, but I know someone in my lab that got an invite on Thursday (01/09).
  12. So, for those us who haven't gotten interview invities for Yale BBSB and Berkeley MCB at this point ...we can pretty much assume we've been rejected?
