  1. I didn't apply to Yale but I can't help feeling so bad for everyone who was rejected. Looking at the results board and seeing all of them makes me sad . I know you will all get into great programs and love them. And hopefully brouhaha and cpaige also get into the MA.
  2. Ah so suddenly you're not so against finding another time waster .
  3. Anthropologists seem kind of neurotic too, but they only have 6 pages of their 2010 admissions thread. Economists don't even have a thread but topics seem to focus on them calculating their odds of acceptance. History is as neurotic as we are.
  4. I will take a look and report back. I am on a week's vacation between my old job and a new job and am going through blackberry withdrawal so I need something to do to avoid checking my work account every 5 minutes.
  5. On a somewhat unrelated note, has anyone else noticed how many of the daily top 20 posters are from the Politics board?? http://forum.thegradcafe.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=stats Does that make us dedicated grad school applicants or neurotic overachievers?
  6. I agree with Oxon. Let's not react to any HYP postings unless someone posts one in the forum. That being said, if someone gets a legitimate response I implore you to post ASAP!!
  7. Harvard was fake. Someone admitted posting the fake results.
  8. Tomorrow is another day. Hopefully THE day. Not holding my breath though.
  9. Haha yeah I worry about post-application depression too
  10. FYI one of the Yale responses has attached a username to it: politico33. I hope someone isn't impersonating someone else again. Edited to add: looked it up and the username doesn't even exist.
  11. I wonder why this is happening so much this year. I read through last year's thread and I don't remember seeing any "do you think it's a hoax?" messages. Surely last year's applicants were just as nervous/anxious as we are.
  12. Oh my god now they're doing the same thing for Yale. Don't people have better things to do with their time?? I think I believed Princeton because last year results were out on a Thursday and also it's only 1 week early which isn't unheard of.
  13. I would also like to believe it isn't a hoax, but how come NONE of us have heard ANYTHING? Wouldn't they just send a mass rejection? With all due respect to everyone on this board, surely at least one person who applied (most likely me) would have had the mass rejection wouldn't they?
  14. I was wondering - I was like "that person has EXACTLY teh same profile as cpaige".
  15. I'm a theorist. I don't do new technology .
  16. Oh and by the way, like cpaige I have my gmail open all the time, so I just abotu had a heart attack when I saw "Inbox (1)" and the title 'Grad...' then realized it was a personal message
  17. Hmm that's interesting. I didn't want a grad only college because I think undergrads give more life to the place. I have visited Oxford many times and my friend is a current grad (at Brasenose actually). I didn't ask too much about specific colleges, but just to get a general idea of whether I wanted to go the all-grad route or not. I also looked for colleges that had funding for internationals. Even though chances of getting it are slim, chances of getting it at a college with no funding are nil . Ultimately though, I doubt I will get into any of my choices and will take whatever's given to me (assuming I get in!).
  18. I *think* (it was a while ago) that I applied to Lincoln and Merton. I remember pouring through all of the information about the colleges, getting thoroughly confused, and then picking the ones I got the best vibe from. Where did you go?
  19. I agree that reference letters are important. I applied to the same school 2 years in a row. The first year I was rejected, the second accepted. My stats were identical in both years, statement was slightly different though both were well written. The only significant difference was that the second year I had a referee that had worked with the head of the admissions committee and was good friends with him. She's the type that wouldn't give glowing praise. Her letter was probably along the lines of "she is good at this, but needs to work on this" so I'm sure the letter was an honest assessment of my abilities and not inflated. So I believe I got in the second year because of her letter.
  20. Thanks to both! I'm quite relieved actually because his profile isn't very detailed so it's hard to get a sense of his personality from the website. Now I'm hoping I get him again . Oxon, I kind of assumed you had some relationship to Oxford - I don't know why I didn't think to as you about them before!
  21. I did a bit of both. I said I have always been drawn towards questions of justice in all its incarnations. I also gave two specific questions that interested me the most and explained why I thought they were important and how my interest in them was shaped. I do have a dissertation topic but I have also done a masters degree that helped shape that. Straight out of undergrad I had only a very general idea and it wasn't until I wrote my masters thesis that I actually was able to formulate an idea for a PhD so I would agree with those who say that the first 2 years shape your thinking for sure.
  22. No, I've applied for the DPhil this time. I did a masters in political theory at LSE. A few years ago I was accepted to the MSc Political Theory Research but had to decline because I didn't have the funding together at the time. I was assigned to Daniel McDermott. I'm assuming that if I'm accepted again this year I will probably be assigned him again. WHat's he like?
  23. Yeah this sounds like you'll be in soon. I doubt they'd go to all that trouble and expense if you weren't likely to be admitted.
  24. God I feel so bad for that person with the Rochester Rejecceptance.
  25. Can you try to feel some full funding at Princeton or Oxford in your bones for me?
