  1. Even though I know there is pretty much 0% chance that my letter will arrive today (UK) I will still obsessively wait for the mail today.
  2. I'm currently doing my DPhil in politics at Oxford...I'm also waiting for my SSHRC result so don't even ahve that at the moment. There are scholarships at your college depending on which one you end up at...not much funding through the department and what funding there is is extremely untransparently allocated. There are 'bursaries' which are worth 2500 pounds but you have to work off a certain number of hours before they'll give you an installment so I haven't been paid since January becuase the department hasn't offered enough work. There are apparently studentships but I have no clue how anyone gets them because there has never been an ad or anything. Pretty much no additional funding offered by the university itself though other than Clarendon which you can only get upon first application not once you're already here.
  3. Can we also rage at them for not emailing the results instead of mailing?
  4. I think my chances are pretty good but I don't want to jinx myself. I really have no clue what goes into making a good application since I've never gone to grad school in Canada and worked with a supervisor who's familiar with the process. But judging from the percentages, it looks like those who have applied in the UK (and have been forwarded) have gotten an award 75% of the time. So that's good news...I have a good academic record, no publications (normal in my field and it would actually be a detriment to have a publication at this point), a couple of conferences, etc. So nothing special.
  5. I love the fact that I eagerly check this thread despite knowing that there will be no news until next week at the earliest anyway. I seem to be almost as interested in our collective moaning as any actual results .
  6. I plan to drink either way. But I'd to be drinking in celebration rather than drowning my sorrows obviously.
  7. Technically it's late this week right? So we could get them next week!
  8. Lincoln. Also I love Saturday post delivery at times like this .
  9. I'm glad someone else will share my pain when we see others have received their letters and we've still got a few more days until they arrive in Oxford! What college are you at?
  10. Me too - I'm in the UK so whenver you guys get yours I have to add at least 3 more days to the wait .
  11. I study in the UK and have a scholarship here as well. The money is non-taxable and I don't declare it in either country.
  12. I applied directly to SSHRC for foreign study but just out of curiosity...are the ca. 4500 university submissions the ones that actually made it through to SSHRC or the number of people who applied to their university? Also soooo encouraged by the foreign study stats! But alas if you don't get one with those odds, it would be even more crushing.
  13. As a direct applicant I don't think you are informed of your first score. All I got in my letter was that my file was being forwarded to the national competition...no info on scores, etc. was given.
  14. I was just procastinating writing my thesis and my mind started wandering to the SSHRC competition. I just had an irrational burst of anger at the fact that SSHRC hasn't stepped into the 21st century and started posting results online or even just emailing them! Arrrrgh...
  15. There are a bucnh of different awards with different criteria/amounts. Doesn't sound promising though if she's already heard .
  16. Did anybody apply for one of their fellowships? On their website it says we should hear by April 15th but that unsuccessful applicants will not be notified...irritating that they can't contact rejects considering it costs $60 just to apply! I'm not even sure they received my application because I don't remember seeing the application fee on my credit card statement. Anyway, has anyone heard anything from them?
  17. They're normally pretty good about keeping this page up to date. You won't be informed if you don't get an award, but if it says on this page that successful applicants have been notified and you haven't, then you know you're out of luck: http://www.clarendon.ox.ac.uk/2012results/
  18. Got my letter in Oxford and was forwarded! Over the moon as last year I applied and was rejected in the first round...now to check what the odds are from this point on...
  19. I have already been checking my mail constantly, but now I will be even more frantic! I'm in the UK so I imagine I've got a week's wait or so grrr
  20. I'm pretty sure they're referring to people who applied directly to SSHRC. You already know you've been forwarded by your uni, we don't know anything yet. Though I think people who are forwarded by their uni will get a standard "we've received your application" email when SSHRC gets it, but you won't hear anything substantive until the final decision.
  21. Oh I see what you mean. Makes sense.
  22. Where did you find the stats about people applying directly having a lower success rate? That doesn't seem fair at all...
  23. I've been trying to search through my emails to find out. I put down my home address on my application so they mailed my response home and then my mother emailed me the bad news. But I can't seem to find it! I do remember, though, that it was at least weeks after people started posting that their schools had forwarded them on.
  24. I seem to remember getting a letter in the mail last year saying I had not been forwarded on to the national competition. I think those who apply directly to SSHRC are all considered together the same way those in a department would be. Then they choose which ones to forward to the national competition and then our applications are considered along with those from people who were forwarded by their schools.
