  1. I saw a Queen's rejection on the results page but I didn't apply so I don't have any more info than that.
  2. Anyone got imposter syndrome yet? I just got accepted to my top choice today and suddenly came down with it. "Oh god I'm not going to pass the coursework in first year and won't continue, then I'll have turned down a direct-entry PhD and end up with just another masters degree". Anyone else??
  3. I would love to. My heart says yes, but my head says take the funded offer.
  4. Got into Oxford!! Wooooooooo!
  5. Do we have a decisions thread yet?
  6. The other thing to remember is that if you do decide to go for the PhD, if you have a certain mark on the MPhil at Oxford you are virtually guaranteed to continue on to the DPhil. On the other hand so many people are accepted to the LSE MScs that admission to the PhD is far from guaranteed. There are also tons and tons of grad students at LSE so on one hand it's good but on the other you don't get that personal experience or feeling of being at a higher level of your education. It's almost like a 5th year of undergrad except the work is harder. I went to LSE for my masters so don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
  7. So I posted a U of T rejection. Turns out it is a waitlist, not a rejection. If you email them they will tell you your status but the gist of it is if you haven't heard by now you are either rejected or waitlisted.
  8. How did you find out? Email or post?
  9. Has anyone heard from Toronto? The results thread says decisions were made and sent out but there are no acceptances on the results page....only 1 waitlist and I find that odd.
  10. Officially rejected by Harvard...
  11. Nice! Did they call or email?
  12. The PhD programs I as accepted to in the UK required a masters degree in order to get straight to research. If you didn't have a masters degree you took an extra year at the beginning. The straight to research version takes 3 years and I'm sure you could argue that your ABD status is equivalent to a UK taught masters. In all likelihood it's superior to a UK masters so you should have no problem.
  13. One person in the Fall 2010 results thread said they were accepted to Toronto's PhD.
  14. Congrats! Hope to see you around campus...looks like I'll be in the philosophy program
  15. Guess I'm out then! Didn't really expect admission as I'm not a great fit...
  16. There's a post on the results page saying TO has notified. Could be fake though.
  17. On another note, anyone hear from Toronto?

Personally I loved the LSE but part of that could be the people I met. In my program class sizes were about 15 and they were all seminars and discussion-based. No lectures. My boyfriend at the time had a lecture class (he took a class outside our program) and there were about 30 people in it, so hardly huge. The LSE really is smack dab right in the middle but I would argue that it does still have a campus feel. All the buildings are clustered together so you run into people you know a lot and it's still fairly insular so non-university people aren't usually hanging around. I lived in Rosebery Hall which I loved. I was originally accepted into Sidney Webb hall but visited it earlier in the year before I got there and hated it so I turned it down and got on the waitlist for something else. In the meantime I tried looking for private accommodation but wasn't particularly successful. I kept calling and they'd say the flat was already taken. I never even actually got to visit anywhere. Anyway I got off the waitlist 2 days before school started so I wouldn't say the halls are 'difficult to get into'. You just need to apply early and be patient. Almost all of my friends in my program were in halls so it can't be that hard. LSE is also great because it has more grad students than undergrads so the culture really is mixed and there are lots of activities/societies for undergrads. Anymore questions, just ask!
  19. She doesn't log on as different posters, just changes her name.
  20. Someone posted on the results page that the Brandeis acceptance is fake.
  21. Fingers crossed for UMass for you .
  22. Curfinwe, tell me you are the Brandeis acceptee on teh results page!
  23. Oxford...Toronto...
  24. Throughout, I didn't really think he was a troll, but maybe someone who was lying about results...so it would explain why he had a SOP and also why he could tell people when results came out b/c he would just wait until someone else claimed one. It just seems so unlikely that someone would get in everywhere and to the specific schools he did. No one can be a perfect fit at every top school and even if his grades were 4.0 800/800/6, a lot of people have those and as-good SOPs and get rejected from at least one school. Though, then again, I guess someone has to be at the far right of the normal curve and get in everywhere . So I had kind of stopped thinking about it because it really doesn't matter.
