  1. Happy New Year! And may the grad schools odds be ever in your favor! (hihihi I'm such a nerd)
  2. Thanks :-) To answer your question: not really. It's just that MIT asked for scanned versions of my TOEFL and GRE scores. I took a screenshot of my TOEFL results and uploaded a PDF with my GRE scores. Since MIT asked this, I was wondering why I still haven't received them.
  3. Yey! Cool :-) May I ask to what OEB lab at Harvard you are applying to?
  4. Are they supposed to mail the results? Or are the results only on the website? I took the TOEFL in October and the GRE in November and still haven't received them.
  5. Hi! It seems like we are only two on this forum. Are there others?
  6. Oh ok I had no idea. Sorry for the wrong information
  7. Well it's not because you get into a program that you can do your PhD in all the labs in the university. You can only do rotations in labs/be in a lab that are/is affiliated to the program. Is it what you were asking?
  8. You should use the score select option and send the Q159 and V151. Or do you have time to retake it? The verbal is a little low...
  9. But if you grades are low in biology, you should look at physics programs.
  10. Hey! I think that the first thing to do is to look for labs that interest you and then see to what program you have to apply in order to get into the lab. In a university, a lab that does the kind of research you like might be in the physics department, while in another university it might be in a biology department.
  11. I'm not completely sure. It's just that last year the invitations were sent on December 18th. And now Berkeley's office is closed until January 6th. Considering the interview weekend is two weeks later, I don't think we'll get anything positive after the break...
  12. Thanks! Nice to meet you too :-) Hopefully we might run into each other during an interview weekend somewhere :-) Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to be at Berkeley considering the results were supposed to be sent out last week :-( Good luck to you too ;-)
  13. YEAAAAAH another international plant biologist!
  14. Hey, I think that what you're asking is a little weird. The idea of going to another university as a visiting student is relevant only if the university offers something crucial for you research that you cannot find in your own university. You should talk with your current PI about it and explain why it's relevant. If it's just to travel or to go to a nice American university then it doesn't make sense and you should wait for your post-doc to do that. The American universities have no interest in having visiting students just for the sake of it. It might only interest a Professor there because he wants to collaborate with you and your PI. As to fundings, the US system doesn't seem to be doing well when it comes to funding full-time international students so to be honest you won't get an American scholarship (maybe a British one?). However, you won't have tuition fees as you'll be there just for research.
  15. Hey! Your profile looks really good and solid (except for the GRE scores that are a little low for universities where GRE scores are considered important). Your research experience is impressive and American universities like the idea of having research experience in different countries. But I'm a biologist and I don't know what they are looking for exactly in your field, so you should post this in the Political Science related forum http://forum.thegradcafe.com/forum/36-political-science/ . I'm sure you'll get more answers there. Just remember that the international competition is much harder so even those in your field can't be sure if your profile is going to get selected. If you want my advice, do not convert your grades into the classic GPA system. 3.19 is considered low in the US, although it is very high in France for example. It really depends on countries. Your 14/20 in France is really good (I'm French so I know^^) but if you convert it to a 2.8 GPA it might seem really low. So keep your grades as they are. Emphasize the fact that you are 2nd out of 100 and say somewhere that the grading system is different in Turkey and in France. Good luck ;-)
  16. 20 programs? Wow now I'm the one who's freaking out haha
  17. Hey! Here is something I posted a few days ago: "Hey! So here's an information for international students like me who are really scared because they haven't received any interview invitations yet. So I called a couple of universities and they said that there is an order in which they send invitations. First Americans, second International students who live in the US or close enough (Canada, Mexico...) and then the other international students. There could be a difference of 1-2 weeks between them. So no panicking (yet...)" One of the universities I called is Yale, so you shouldn't worry now. I'm not applying to the same program as you but for my program the international results are after the Christmas break. Fair warning: don't put too much hope in one university. As international students, our chances are tiny and there's a serious random factor in it. For example, you might be ranked 4th in their program but if they invite only 3 students, then you're out of the game. However, in another university they might rank you 2nd and then you're in.

    GPA

Thanks for the answer. I hope it's true because this forum really freaks me out. I was proud of my 3.73 uGPA until I saw how common this kind of GPA is on this forum.... (plus I'm an international applicant so my chances are very low...)

    GPA

So I saw on the results page that a lot of candidates who get accepted have a GPA>3.9. Some even have a 4.0 GPA. I am not from the US so this is a little confusing to me. How come having such a high GPA isn't that rare?
  21. Called Wisconsin-Madison genetics=>Interview invitations: end of this week/beginning of next week.
  22. Nobody? :-( Soooo nervous
  23. Hi! Has anybody heard from one of these: Wisconsin-Madison genetics, Berkeley plants, Yale MCGD? Thanks
  24. I read it on another forum and I also checked on the results page and last year and the year before the emails were sent on Tuesday, about a week before Christmas... I hope it's not true because I didn't get an email...
