Welcome to the 2016-17 cycle!
correlatesoftheory replied to waterloo715's topic in Political Science Forum
Nope. Judging from the email it sounds like we'll get follow-up emails in the next few weeks. -

Mine was from the IR subfield chair for this cycle's admissions committee. -

Thanks! It seems like Madison is a school that trickles out decisions, so who knows what's going to happen in the next week or so. -

Claiming a Madison acceptance! Just received an email from a POI! -

In case anyone is interested, I was told UC Davis would be released at the beginning of February. -

Seems like funding across schools is about the same, but not completely uniform. NYU's website states they guarantee $26k for several years, but I imagine this gets adjusted each year to keep up with inflation and cost of living. -

Can confirm, was told the same information. Not sure if this is the orthodox procedure for funding across universities, but whatever. -

Yes, very weird, but I think someone else on here indicated that OSU's portal system is very slow. -

Nope. As of 8:30 PST no email indicating I was accepted. Just going off what I see on the OSU portal right now. -

Just a quick update for everyone: my status on the OSU portal went from 'Pending' to 'Decision' this morning, with a congratulatory message inside. Don't know if it changed for anyone else. -

I called them actually asking about funding business, and was told right then. So that was nice. -

Mine still is pending, so don't stress out. We're not nearly out of the woods yet. -

I personally did, yes. But judging by past cycles, an interview doesn't necessarily guarantee admittance, and a "non-interview doesn't mean denial. -

Claiming another OSU admittance! Status hasn't changed from "Pending," but was told via phone. Don't give up hope just yet people! -

I'm expecting 2-3 decisions this week too. My hunch is that OSU, Madison, and Davis will come out this week. Maybe Chapel Hill. That's just a guesstimate based off previous cycles. I'm saying for most schools, it's still early. I think we'll see a wave of decisions beginning at end of next week. -

Ditto. One of my letter writers said, even after I told him I got a call from the DGS, that it's still way early for decisions to be made. -

correlatesoftheory replied to waterloo715's topic in Political Science Forum
No, they didn't release decisions and won't for another two weeks or so. I just called. I think @RevTheory1126 is right. If no one claims anything explicitly on this board, or you didn't get an email giving you the yay or nay, then don't take it seriously. I'd also like to point out that frequenters of this board would be wise to look at the date of decisions from the previous two cycles for whatever school it is that you're worried about, and go off of that. For Berkeley, it sounds like decisions won't go out until the end of next week at the earliest. -

I received a very nice call from Ohio State's DGS to discuss my application and their program. Didn't extend an offer but said he'd be in contact with me again in the near future. Very exciting! -
Professors do research on German politics?
correlatesoftheory replied to bwgvsu's topic in Political Science Forum
Maybe James Adams at UC Davis? I know he does work on European politics as a comparativist, but I don't know if he works on Germany particularly. -

Sorry, just to clarify all but one school asked I give them unofficial scores and to send in official ones, if that makes sense. -

Literally all of my apps except one asked for unofficial GRE scores. -
I can't give expert opinion on whether or AWA score is 'high enough.' If you were student from an English speaking country, I'd say it would kill your app, but because you're not, it probably won't have much impact, especially since you have a solid verbal score. Also, I'm unsure about TOEFL scores, but you might want to compare what you got versus what other schools typically get for accepted students. Just a suggestion: you might want to include UC Davis on your list as a potential school. Amber Boydstun works explicitly in political psychology, and Robert Huckfeldt has done some work on network analysis and group-based experiments.

Which one is better? In case of GRE
correlatesoftheory replied to dododo's topic in Political Science Forum
To be fair @dododo is an international student. You're correct in pointing out that 155 is low in the verbal section, but I think this can be overlooked due to ESL and if @dododo gets a solid TOEFL score. -

Definitely go with the perfect Quant score. Just be sure to get good TOEFL scores. -

I don't think it is. I got a 161Q/79%, a 162V/90%. I'd say go for whichever has a higher Q score.
