  1. Sorry I'm a little late in the game- but for what it's worth I've heard that UT isn't great with always sending rejections, so it may be in your best interest to call them directly. It also seems like their "MyStatus" check thing is on quite a delay ( there was a week lull for what I was hearing from my POI/ Grad Admissions). I also have a friend who called USF a few days ago- looks like they haven't sent out acceptances OR rejections yet. I believe their application deadline was pretty late, but geeze! Hope this helped- best of luck!
  2. I'm coming from New York City- Looks like I'll be making a UHaul Roadtrip this summer... Joy!
  3. Excellent- feel free to PM me and I can talk to her

  5. Have a friend in her 3rd year of phd there and REALLY loves it, esp the vibe among the other graduate students
  6. First Round offers for CUNY Grad Center went out two weeks ago, and I understand if you haven't heard than you are waitlisted for now as spots open up. Good luck!!!
  7. I got mine too! Yippee!!!!!
  8. Acceptance at Berkeley today! (In the Integrative Bio department- but Paleo section) Finally!
  9. Is anyone still waiting out for word from Berkeley IB? The results boards are bare, but they're pretty slim every year...
  10. I'm still waiting to hear almost a month after interview! How were you guys notified? Should I stalk out my mailman?!
  11. Don't forget, all you need is one! Though choices are good, remember that a PhD or Masters is really what you make of it!
  12. CC2014, I've been in two so far, but my experience and from other stories I've heard, the "interview" (at least for geoscience) is more like a meet and greet. You are typically put up with a graduate student host in your department, and that person will tell you anything you need to know about the program. For both of mine, there is a day that is more generalized, and then a day that is specific to your specialty. On the "general" day, you will get group tours of labs/ collections/ offices/ campus, and given information about funding/ requirements/ etc. For the "specialty" day, you will have one on one meetings with your POI and relevant faculty members (these are very relaxed, and quite fun! I was just asked about my broad interests and philosophy of science). These days are so much fun, but crazy exhausting! There is hardly time to make a call or use the facilities! All food is taken care of, and typically there is an opportunity to talk to students and faculty over beer. If you a preparing for one, I wouldn't worry about "studying up" too much (I did this, and it proved useless), but make sure you understand your reasons for wanting to enter their program, and be able to talk (generally) about your research experience and what you can bring to the program. Also, if you come in with the right questions, you can get a lot of really helpful information from the graduate students. Good Luck!
  13. I already live in NYC and am in the CUNY system, so its time for a change. I threw in the CUNY app just in case my SO and I needed to stick around, but I think we're ready for the move! But Berkeley is still hush hush; Its going to be a tough call between UCB and UT if I get into both!
  14. My department is interviewing new faculty members right now, and he was giving a lecture to our intro class while I sat in the back row with some friends and my advisor, as well as other faculty to observe. I got a call from my POI in the middle of the lecture so ran out the back door. She told me the great news, and when I went back into the lecture hall I tore out a piece of paper from my notebook that said "I GOT INTO UT AUSTIN" and passed it down. Everyone, including the faculty, gave my high fives and thumbs ups, and wrote messages/ questions back to me. My advisor even wrote, "OH MY! I owe you a drink!", along with, "What did she say?!", "Was she excited?!, "Is there funding?!" etc., and I eventually had to respond with, "No note passing in class, I will tell you everything later!" I'm so grateful I have a department as excited as me! And of course when the lecture was out, we all went into the hall and did a happy dance together.
  15. I got accepted to both CUNY and UT Austin today!! I am over the moon!
  16. Gotcha! Apparently UCB is taking their time so they can offer acceptance an funding packages at the same time. I'd be more at ease I had a definite "yes" from somewhere... Sigh... My POI at UT leaves Austin at the end of the week, so maybe she'll give me a heads up. I can't wait for these next 2-3 weeks to pass...
  17. Austin was great, and the department is amazing (although I have some ethical issues about some of the funding...). How long after your interview did your POI let you know?
  18. I realize all programs are different, but does anyone have any idea how long after an interview you will be notified by a program? Berkeley interviewed a month ago and no word (but I heard rejections went out to other interviewees) and I just got back from UT Austin. I will continue to be a nervous wreck until I have "a bird in the hand". And it feels kinda tacky to ask...
  19. Got an email from my POI at USC- they don't have a formal interview process but offered to fly me out whenever. I still have no definite word from any school, gah!
  20. And yes I am! I'll see you there! (PM me if you want to say hello!)
  21. Happy to share! Found it this summer with my advisor during fieldwork- we laughed ourselves silly!
