  1. *sigh* Hence, for the schools that have announced already, and did not tap me, I presume I am rejected from JHU and Yale. This leaves me with Temple University and 2 programs at Harvard (Government/RSEA). Seeing that two have been accepted to Temple already (subfield unknown), and the other is Harvard, I should really just start thinking of contingency plans now for this academic cycle shouldn't I...
  2. I have begun drawing up contingency plans in the case that I don't get into any program I have applied to. I only applied to US programs so far, but have started to look at UK programs. Do you have any suggestions on UK schools for Social Movement / Contentious Politics? I am currently contacting Nottingham (Critical Theory) and Brighton ("PhD in History, Philosophy, Politics and Cultural Studies").
  3. Will the Temple admit let me know what subfield you're in? Was this an email from your POI?
  4. When I spoke with Celeste Arrington in August, she told me that GW admin had decided to transform from a mid career phd program to a more full research institution and hence would have more funding opportunities from 2014-15. Maybe this is why they are wait listing more?
  5. I wonder if all GW and JHU admits so far were Theory and IR? Any comparatives out there? And do they go in waves, or at once? Seeing GW's waitlist pop up along with acceptances is not reassuring.
  6. I thought Yale had historically announced soon after Presidents' Day. Anyone emailed Yale yet about this? And how about Johns Hopkins?
  7. Comparative here as well. Not optimistic about MIT though, for myself. As I keep repeating in despair, I don't really care where anymore, but rather would like to go where ever I may be accepted.
  8. Getting to the point of anxiety where I would be perfectly happy to get into any school, even if that need be Temple University. Yale would indeed be nice, and so will GW, RSEA or JH. but I can't deal with this anxiety. I can't contemplate how any of you do this for multiple years.
  9. I envy your situation. I guess if the POI is fairly high up the chain of command, this may be some positive effect then. That makes me feel a little better. I guess I will keep my fingers crossed then. Thanks!
  10. Yea, that is what I was thinking. And there is no way to figure out who is on the committee, right?
  11. I cannot know for sure, but my recommender seemed that she was in close contact with her former advisor, and in return, the poi returned my email extensively. I assume that's a good sign, but after a rejection at UW under similar circumstances I'm getting rather worried.
  12. How much effect is there in admissions when one of your recommeders used to work with your POI? I hear that it differs in the UK and the US, but I guess my real question is whether the will of the POI to take you on really matters.
  13. Thanks, IRToni! I guess we all just have to sit tight and wait...
  14. Anyone applied to the Regional Studies - East Asia AM at Harvard? I wonder if their decisions will come around the same as their Gov PhD program.
  15. I completely agree. Other than the two rejections (Berkeley and UW) the others seem to be late decisions as well (such as GW). Very stressful, to say the least.
  16. I applied to 8 universities, 9 programs (I applied to a related A.M. as well as their PhD), got my first rejection (Berkeley) yesterday. I am getting rather worried as well, thinking I should have applied to more, maybe some in the UK as well. In regards to safety schools, I applied to one, but am getting worried about that as well. Alas, all we can do is wait.
  17. Applied to: Harvard (PhD Government) Harvard (AM Regional Studies East Asia) Yale (PhD Political Science - Comparative) GWU (PhD Political Science - Comparative) MIT (PhD Political Science - Comparative) Johns Hopkins (PhD Political Science - Comparative) University of Washington (PhD Political Science - Comparative) Berkeley (PhD Political Science - Comparative) Temple University (PhD Political Science - Comparative) --- Seeing that UW applicants are getting interviews already, I'm getting rather worried I haven't been contacted yet. Pre-application discussion with POI was very affirmative. Do all UW applicants get interviewed, or does it depend on a case by case basis?
