  1. Thx for responding. Anyone admits are CP?? Totally grasping at straws at this point. Edit: HUGE CONGRATS!!!!
  2. Sadly I'd normally agree with you on this. But on last year's thread, people actually claimed them on different days, and confirmed that their acceptances did not arrive on the same day, so I'm still holding out hope!! Although there have been so many acceptances for UCLA at this point that I'm sort of coming to terms with a rejection as well.
  3. So because I'm crazy and dying of anxiety, I searched up the thread from last year (since it seems like UCLA's acceptances really trickle in over a few days) and found this: (first post ) Given this... do those who've been accepted mind telling us your subfields? Thanks!!
  4. congrats all on UCLA! Really hoping that they do more than one round.
  5. Congrats to all berkeley admits! Hoping UCSD and UCLA will follow suit quickly.
  6. congrats to chicago!
  7. claiming an NYU as well! Incredibly excited!!!
  8. Actually I'm wondering if it perhaps means they will release today. What are the chances of an adcom meeting on consecutive days (isn't is usually once a week or something)? Fingers crossed they are finalizing decisions today and will release emails at 5pm. such blunt questions... incredibly nervous about the math GRE scores now that they've made a point about it. Sounds like they're really considering you though, so that's a great sign
  9. They did it around 5pm-ish EST last year
  10. If nothing pops up on the admissions board from UCLA tomorrow, we are all going to be so confused/crushed
  11. congrats! super loving your username
  12. Penn state! Congrats!
  13. Besides training, your cohort will also play a huge role in how your future publications/networks will play out, so that is something to think about as well. I have asked several of my professors about this in the past two years, and the general response has been - unless the two schools are similar enough in rank/placement (and not necessarily in terms of US News rankings etc, but also how well known they are in your particular subfield), you should definitely go to the better one. Actually, one of my professors told me unequivocally that one should go to the best school he/she been accepted to, and then adjust his/her topics of interest accordingly based on the school's strengths. People tend to switch topics in grad school anyways, and from what I have been told, the pervasive opinion is that you should not be swayed too much by your current interests in choosing schools because it could very well negatively affect your future job prospects.
  14. Darn! Is this your way of saying that Feb 13th is the day when everything is finalized and calls will go out? Dangerous possibility of a crappy valentines day present...
  15. Thanks for your insight on this. I'm curious - schools usually post their placement info online. Is this not the entire picture (are they picking and choosing who to list/not including a bunch of people who didn't place well)?
  16. wondering if stanford might make calls this week as well. In the last three years, they've made calls between 3-4 weeks (on thursdays) after the start of their semester. This sorta means there might be a (very very very slight??) chance that they might make calls tomorrow. Of course, since the odds of getting into stanford are so minuscule, i'm not sure what would feel worse - not knowing and being hopeful, or striking that off the list and moving on to the next.
  17. Wonder if that means they plan on releasing acceptances and rejections at the same time, because last year they waited quite a while before releasing rejections.
  18. Congrats to all duke admits!
  19. congrats to all that have been admitted today! has anyone claimed the UCSD admit?
  20. i believe there was some talk earlier in the thread about UCSD not releasing till 1st/2nd week of feb
  21. I'd rather not say the school, for the sake of anonymity (sorry! super paranoid) but your suggestion sounds good and I'll probably end up saying something along those lines... thanks!
  22. my problem is that my POI there knows me and my preferences pretty well (was a LOR writer). i'm afraid anything i say will set off his bs radar, because we both know its not my top choice.
  23. a quick question for those that have been interviewed... do you get asked about where you rank the program in the list of schools you've applied? I'm wondering how one would answer that sort of question, and how much it would affect the likelihood of admission...
  24. congrats to UNC admit!!! heres hoping that every one of us will hear something positive by the end of this week
  25. ooh i do hope MIT lets us know earlier than last year. I'm pretty sure columbia met sometime this week too. I wonder how many rounds the adcomm meets before making their final decisions.
