  1. I agree with @peachypie. It might depend on the school, but the difference at my school (where there is a SOM biosci grad program with various departments and a separate biology department/program outside of the SOM) is funding sources. The bio department has some of the same class requirements as the SOM program and we are allowed to rotate/join labs in their department, so in the end it might not matter. I would contact an admin of the program you're interested in to get more info about rules on rotating and joining labs outside of the department/program. Anyway, there are still a good number of PIs in SOM departments that study basic science, the difference might be that they tend to use animal models/cells.
  2. Yes, I did. I can't sleep on flights so I was sleep deprived, but other than that it was a pretty fun and relatively stress free interview. I would recommend comfortable shoes as you will be walking a lot (from hotel to the med center, med center to student housing, and from hotel to the dinner and bar)! My only complaint (other than the red eye) is that we didn't get a city tour or any free time to explore because the interview was so short.
  3. Does this happen to be for NYU? I was in this same situation last year. However, I remember our activities starting earlier than we could check in, so the first day kinda sucked for those flying in from the west coast (we had to get ready in the hotel lobby bathroom). But it looks like your situation isn't as bad. Good luck!
  4. We had a panel at my school of faculty on admission committees from Stanford, Berkeley, and UCSF. Someone asked what the acceptance rates were(after interviews)... I thiiink(though not too sure) Berkeley (MCB) said they have ~80% acceptance, Stanford said ~40%, and I am forgetting what UCSF's numbers were.
  5. Another dev bio applicant here! I'm into cell fate determination, but I also have a soft spot for musculoskeletal development (my current lab's focus).
  6. Thanks! I have no idea about the UW biology invite situation. My only insight is that when I was contacted they gave me two dates to choose from 1/10-1/11 and 1/16-1/17
  7. Long time lurker so I finally decided to post. Also, when I looked at last years stats I thought I wouldn't get any interviews because my super low GRE quant score (the reason I applied to so many schools). There is hope!
