  1. I would like to work in applied research and as a clinician (supervisory role or PP). My earlier research roles were more grunt work, but I accumulated more pubs towards the end. I have three pubs (one first author) and a handful of posters. I'm also trying to kick out one more pub this summer for my fall app. At this point, I think the only value in the new RA role lies in quality of the institution and PIs, keeping clinical research relevant on my CV with a new role, and the opportunity to publish more with notable authors. But maybe this won't add a ton of value, given my other experience. Such a mindf***. Thanks for your bluntness and guidance, 8Bit. It's much appreciated!
  2. I am seeking opinions about clinical psych doctoral admissions. I have 7 years of combined clinical research experience, 2 years of clinical counseling experience (plus 2 years of volunteer crisis counseling experience). In the last two years, I have worked in the private sector doing I/O and market research analytics, mainly because research pays pretty much nothing. I have an excellent new private sector job opportunity that I would never be re-hired for if I pass it up, but a prestigious university may offer me a non-exempt developmental clinical research job for far an embarrassing amount of money. My question is basically this: given my past experience, will the new clinical research position be much of a value add to my application? (I could probably get more presentations and maybe pubs in this position in the long run, too). Or should I stick to a solid plan B job that pays well if I'm rejected during this round of admissions? My main fear is that I will take a poor paying job in hopes of acceptance into a clinical program but will be stuck making hardly any money and not working toward a better future if I'm not accepting into a PhD program this year. Thanks in advance for your input!
  3. Hi - does anyone know when schools typically release faculty accepting students for the following application cycle (2018)? Thanks!
  4. Hi - I'm planning on applying to clinical psychology program next fall, and I am wondering if child clinical tracks are harder to get into than adult?

  6. I know that this post is really old, but it was super helpful in dealing with admissions anxiety! Thank you!
  7. Nope! Less competition for you =) Is anyone out there applying to BGSU?

  9. Me too! I want to email them so badly. I mean, you can always say you have another offer to make your bugging them seem justified... but I don't want to lie! At least there aren't that many I/O results posted yet.
  10. Is anyone else going crazy or is it just me?!? I guess no results are better than rejections.
  11. For the programs I applied to, it looks like the earliest accepted records were from the third week of January last year up to mid February for early picks and April for applicants who were wait listed.
  12. My DH made me a song during a gradschool meltdown - maybe you'd like it. It gave me hope
  13. Ha! Same here! A friend lent me the Wheel of Time, but I couldn't get past a few pages. I'm sure it's an amazing fantasy series, but I just couldn't get into it. I've been on the non-fiction train for a while now. Jane Mayer does have some Trump writings - a quick google search gave me this gem: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/10/24/documenting-trumps-abuse-of-women. She also had a good NPR interview about her experience publishing Dark Money: http://www.npr.org/books/authors/138006088/jane-mayer I'll have ot check out Sarah Schulman, thanks for the recommendation! (and for distracting me from refreshing my email 50 times)
  14. I'm reading Dark Money, too! I had no idea the Libertarian movement in this country was so contrived! The stories (especially environmental) about the dark conservative right are especially upsetting with our new president =(. I'm also reading Switch: How to change things when change is hard and just got done reading First Break All the Rules (a Gallup book about Management)
  15. I almost applied to that one, too! My GRE scores were a bit under their average and I'm too lazy to re-take at this point. But they expire this year... so if I get rejected this year maybe I'd reconsider. I'm local to AA, so if you get in and need any recommendations for anything, I'm happy to help! (although there are other forums for that, too ).
  16. Which track at UM are you applying to? I live in Ann Arbor and was going to apply, but I prefer more balanced applied work instead of strictly academic. Great school though!
  17. I'm applying to BGSU and Western Michigan - trying to stay local. I'm DYING waiting to hear back. Western's program is pretty new, so I don't see any results posts. It looks like BGSU didn't start contacting applicants until late January last year, though. I don't know how much more of this waiting game I can take!

  19. I found this thread to help cope with my anxiety! =) I take more of a deterministic approach. I applied to a different sub-field of study a couple years ago and was rejected by a lot of programs and turned down one offer. It didn't seem like a good fit for me any more. Now I am applying to my current sub-field of choice and, looking back, I think I would be unhappy if I would have continued down that path. Sometimes rejection creates opportunity that is better for you in the future. I think it's also helpful to take a mindful approach, knowing that you are exactly where you are supposed to be right here, right now. .....or maybe you don't have to worry at all because you'll be accepted =) And then let the real worrying begin when your coursework and research piles up haha!
