  1. I picked best fit, which then agreed to become best funded. Of course, I had schools of, "No way in Hell"; "I could do this" and finally, "Yes. This is where I'm going." So my visits made it easy. Again, the one I decided, "Yes, absolutely," also directly asked me, "Did any other department offer more money?" after I had already decided. I'm pleased to say the least.
  2. Can anyone give me an estimate of what to expect for utility costs? Electric, water, internet, cable, etc.?
  3. This whole process is really getting to me. I have a visit this weekend so I've been going hard in the paint (working really really really hard) to get all of my work done before I leave and I just forgot what day it was. I really need to know where I'll be living in 6 months. I don't like all this uncertainty nonsense.
  4. Perhaps if you battled some sort of rebel group while you're there?
  5. I just want to remind everyone with acceptances to remember to read the fine print at your chosen school before signing...and to be thankful you're not going to anywhere run by these people--- https://www.pcci.edu/GeneralInfo/StudentLifeFAQ.html Maybe I'm biased, but I like integrated stairwells and such.
  6. I actually know of profs grading freshman English papers this way. Whichever flew the furthest was an A on the curve. All the more reason to make your term papers aerodynamic.
  7. Yeah, I mean there are plenty of schools on here where two applicants apply to Schools A and B, one gets into A but not B, the other gets into B but not A. I hate to think some decisions are rather arbitrary, but some decisions are rather arbitrary.
  8. No Stanford. Oh well. Texans can't live in California anyway.
  9. Yeah. I never trust St. Eds. Especially because I've apparently been targeted for two of their programs, so I'll get two emails within 3 minutes of each other and all that's changed is the name of the program.
  10. My POI from one of my programs is going to be at my current department tomorrow giving a presentation. Does this mean I have to dress like an adult to go to class?
  11. I feel the same way. I'm hoping maybe they're going by subfield and they just haven't gotten to mine yet. But I feel like that's likely a stretch.
  12. Me too. I was thinking I'd hear from them like 2 weeks ago.
  13. They're being weird about admits. I don't like it. I don't like it one bit.
  14. As a more relevant aside, a friend of mine just got into UNC. So now I get to re-panic. Great.
  15. In a nutshell, yes. A lot of schools (mine included) don't run in parties. My univ has a significantly lower limit on funds (Less than $2k for an SBP campaign). That being said, I know people who sold off part of their livestock to run for SBP, so there's that. But I'm at a major R1 too. Varies by the culture of the school.
  16. They run in parties- I want to say they told me an SBP candidate was expected to contribute $10k to the campaign. It was like a year ago, so I don't fully recall all the details.
  17. They spend like $10k on a student body president campaign and control an ungodly amount of university funds. Between them and the University of Tennessee, it sounds like student body campaigns are like a two week tailgate
  18. I met some of them at a conference last year and the more they told me about the way they do some things made my jaw drop.
  19. Florida's allocation process is weird to start with. They give waaaaayyy too much power to their super Greek controlled Student Government. But I digress.
  20. Obviously the entire department got canned and they're not hiring anyone else as to allocate more funding to the swim team. Come on now.
  21. Since when is this board about reasonable explanations?
  22. That is dedication right there. Bravo sir/madam.
  23. Well, I had a dream during my afternoon nap my brother crashed a helicopter in a river in the middle of Houston as he was landing to pick my family up. Good thing my brother made it through 4 years in the Air Force and still hasn't flown in anything a day in his life--he's obviously a terrible pilot. But alas. Dreams are peculiar things.
