  1. Thanks sarab! I appreciate all the support everyone has given me. I am going to stay hopeful. This was only my first time applying. I'm going to try and find some archaeological work, hopefully in Peru, and I'm going to try and get something published. That way next year I'll be more competitive.
  2. Officially rejected from UCSD. I guess I'll be back next year.
  3. Does anyone know anything about wait lists? Like, would most schools send out notifications that students have been wait-listed after they send out acceptances? Most of the UCSD acceptances seem to have gone out, so I don't think I'll be getting one. But I'm holding out hope that maybe I'll be put on the wait list, and someone will decide to go somewhere else.
  4. Don't be sorry. I feel the same way. I think I'm giving up hope that I've been accepted there, but it'd be nice to just hear something. My advisor is offering to help me find a job in Peru and I want to start doing that so that I can have at least some idea of what I'll be doing after graduation.
  5. Sorry to hear about your rejection! But, like strudelle said, you have some fantastic programs to choose from now. Good luck!
  6. I've been thinking that too. But at the same time, I don't think I've said anything that unprofessional. And saying online that you've been accepted somewhere shouldn't be considered unprofessional. Obviously you're going to be excited. I bet most people post on facebook when they get in somewhere.
  7. Boo, I still haven't heard anything. Congrats to you though!
  8. I really hope that's how it was with my interview. Today is seriously dragging on. I really want to hear back from him!!!
  9. Why indeed? I was so nervous during my phone interview, I'm positive that my POI thought I was a crazy person, or at least an idiot. I mean, it probably didn't go so badly, but in my memory it was horrible. I wish I could go back in time and change it.
  10. Pretty sure the school I'm waiting on is off today. Do you know if Chicago and Penn are open?
  11. I'm glad I answered because otherwise I wouldn't have paid the bill. But still, it was the opposite of what I was hoping for.
  12. I got a call from an unfamiliar number today, outside my area code. I was so excited, but it was just my credit card company telling me that I forgot to pay my bill. Oops.
  13. You're so right. The Anthro department at my school is always working with our GIS lab, and a lot of the Anthro majors get internships there and go on to work in GIS.
  14. Well, the socializing part is the important part anyway.
  15. Haha. The best part of being in anthropology is drinking beer and chatting with other anthropologists.
  16. Your friend's research sounds like it's a little more complicated than mine, actually. But this is only an undergraduate thesis so that's not surprising. I had all of a month to work with my materials before I started writing my paper. Your research sounds really cool. I have always been sort of curious about human migration patterns. We're a really wide-spread species! And the technology you're using sounds super cool. I can't wait to get to grad school and get my hands on some high tech archaeology tools.
  17. Thanks! I think I might post it on my Academia.edu profile when I'm done. I don't know exactly what I want to do in grad school, but I am really enjoying textiles and I kind of want to continue with that.
  18. Good idea! I could use a distraction. I'm feeling really discouraged because I still haven't heard back from my POI at UCSD. I feel like if I had been accepted I would have heard back by now. :-/ But anyway, I'm into Andean Archaeology. I worked at a site on the central coast of Peru the last couple of summers. For my senior thesis, I'm trying to establish a link between textile production and social status at that site.
  19. I had an interview on Monday via phone. Other applicants to this program have posted acceptances. I haven't heard a thing.
  20. Yeah, my school isn't closed for the holiday, and it's George Washington's birthday, and he's sort of a mascot for us (he donated the start up money for our institution). We do have a ball in honor of his birthday every year. Honestly, I like to think that good ol' George would have wanted us to be in class on his bday. I get the feeling he was the kind of guy who valued hard work.
  21. Ugh, I was really hoping to hear back from UCSD by the end of the week. Hopefully I'll hear something next week. Too bad Monday is a holiday. This waiting is horrible. At first I was so excited to have an interview. Now I'm starting to feel down because I haven't heard anything. But then I've been told by other people on here that they'll probably send out official decisions next week, and not all POI's call people before the official decisions. I just want them to put me out of my misery!
