I sent a fb message to one of my recommenders asking his opinion. He told me to definitely do it. I guess a little extra politeness can't hurt, right? Plus I feel like it'll give me a chance to sound a little more articulate. I was so nervous during my phone interview that I was stumbling over my words a bit. I hate how I get like that when it's important!

Does anyone know about writing thank you letters? I want to email the POI that I spoke on the phone with to thank him for taking the time to interview me. Is email too informal?

I am SO GLAD I read this thread today because I had a phone interview with zero time to prepare. The questions they asked were about my research interests, the research I am doing now and if I wanted to continue doing that. Thankfully I've had to speak about my senior thesis quite a bit, so I think I got the point across well despite being incredibly nervous. They also asked if I had any questions about their program. So be prepared to ask some intelligent questions about the program you're applying to.

Turns out I got rejected from Pitt. But I did get a phone interview with UCSD. Hopefully that's a good sign. Nothing wrong with an extra Master's. Or maybe some more work in the field? I've heard some people are able to get positions as research assistants at universities, and that helps them get a foot in the door.

Literally one minute after my above post about getting rejected from Pitt, I got an email asking for a phone interview from UCSD. They called me about 20 minutes after that. I am on an emotional rollercoaster!

Rejected from UPitt. I don't think there's much hope for UCSD at this point. :/

I did send them the batch number, but they still couldn't find it, so I called ETS and complained, and they resent the scores for free. My application page has been updated to show that they received the scores, so I guess that worked out. Now if only they'd tell me whether or not I've been accepted!

You got rejected from Pitt already? I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't heard a thing from them, I wonder what that means? Don't give up all hope though, you never know about UCLA. And there's always next year. My advisor suggested that if I don't get accepted to a PhD program I should apply to some Master's programs. They'll be easier to get into and having a Master's will improve my chances for getting into a PhD program. You could always try that route. Good luck!

Someone posted a rejection from University of Pittsburgh. And you all are saying someone got an interview from UCSD. I haven't heard back from either of these schools. I am filled with anxiety right now!

I'm such a noob with this website. Where can you look at results besides in the forum?

Thanks! I am a bit disappointed to hear that about the funding. It seems like that will make my chances even worse. I'm still holding out hope for Pitt, although they apparently still have not received my GRE scores. I've called ETS about it and they said they would re-send them. Hopefully they get there before the admissions committee makes any decisions.

Has anyone else had problems with ETS sending their GRE scores? One of the schools I applied to says they never received them. I'm trying to call ETS and I can't get through, the line is busy. I talked to them last week and they claim they sent them. I'm really considering going to their office and flipping tables until they fix the problem.

Thanks daykid. Honestly I wasn't expecting to get in there. I applied to Pitt as my safety school and I think I might have a shot. Fingers crossed!

Just found out I got rejected from UCSB. Oooh, it stings! :'(

I applied there and haven't heard anything.

I was so afraid I might do this! I was checking and re-checking all of my statements like a zillion times. If it makes you feel any better, I was looking at my CV yesterday and I noticed that there is a typo that says I worked at a job until Oct. 2014 instead of 2013. I hope no one notices and thinks I was lying about when I worked there...

So I don't know if this is relevant to anyone, but I recently got an email from UC Santa Barbara asking for a writing sample. I sent them one, and an updated version of my transcript, and today they added these things to my online application. So they're definitely looking at applications, at least!

I've never been very good at waiting, but this is seriously just torture!

I get the opposite. "You should definitely go to one of the California schools, not Pittsburgh, it's so depressing." Firstly, I don't know how many options I'll even have, and second, it depends on who gives me funding/which program is better. I'm not going to school to get a tan!
