Haha, ya I hear ya. Ya, I have been looking on Craigslist a lot. Its just kinda hard when its still 5 months out. PM me if your interested in chattin a bit. Idk why I didn't think to look on here for some roomies earlier. So thats an open invitation to anyone who reads this, feel free to contact me if you have a room available or a large house in mind. The green lake area would be cool, as I would like to be close to a good fishing hole.

Im not a bud light kinda guy, but I am looking for some potential roommates in that area. The school I will be attending is in Capitol Hill, which I have learned is quite expensive. Where have you been looking?
  3. As to your first point, that is actually one of the main reasons I want to go to Detroit. Like I said, very similar to Minneapolis as far as the public school systems go. Both are full of problems that help create two of the highest achievement gaps in the country. I figure if I can learn to work effectively within an environment like that, I could be effective anywhere. As to your second point, that is another reason I want to go to Detroit. I like the idea that the city can go nowhere but up, and I would love to be a part of that revival. I have always been attracted to dirty, dingy things. There is something appealing about Detroit. It has an incredible history and people really seem to embrace their Detroit roots. Lastly, I meant to bring it up earlier for any readers who may find it useful. The program is called LIVEDETROIT. It offers a rental incentive program that provides around 2,400.00/ year for two years to incoming graduate students and professionals who move to various Detroit locations. Also, they offer a 1/1 match program up to 20,000 towards the purchase of your first home.
  4. Thanks for the post Science Nerd! I have been weighing WSU and a school in Seattle for a week now, and I am having a hard time deciding between the two. I like Detroit because 1) The program is great, 2) It offers a fully paid third year internship, 3) The area is very intriguing. I am coming from Minneapolis, and it seems that certain parts of Minneapolis are similar to Detroit. Also, the weather would be similar, which is a plus. And 4) It is next to Lake St. Clair, which was just named the #1 bass fishing lake in the country. On the other hand, Seattle offers 1) A great program, 2) an interesting city, and 3) Is close to my aunt (family would be nice when living across the country. Each has their own pros and cons. Anything that I may have missed that would entice me to spend the next three years of my life in Detroit?
  5. Yo Arthur, I have a Skype interview on Wednesday. Hopefully I rock it and will be heading to the motor city in August
  6. Haha, good point. Too bad they don't incorporate some flashing lights and cool sounds throughout the admissions application. Maybe even a bonus spin on a waived app fee?!?
  7. This would all be true if you didn't have to pay +-100 every time you apply
  8. Let me guess, that was Texas A&M that sent two rejection letters?
  9. You got accepted to DU though! I would be pumped right now if I were in your shoes haha
  10. I live in Minneapolis. Its pretty cold here, if thats any consolation
  11. Haha, I had the exact same scenario run through my head earlier this afternoon. And isn't the implicit rejection awful?!? Its ten times worse than being told outright that you are "not competitive" As far as the money part, just consider it as gambling money
  12. Haha, ya, I should probably do the same. If it were summer I could at least go fishing and take my mind off the world of admissions. Perhaps the computer will go in the garbage sometime this afternoon. Who knows. Best of luck with your apps, you still got 5 to go!
  13. Hey guys. Long time reader, first time writer. After receiving two rejections from schools that I knew were not likely to admit me, I got an especially disheartening rejection from a school that was meant to be a back up. After seeing the approaching interview date, I called and spoke with the admissions department and was told that I had been rejected. She cited a large number of qualified applicants (No shit?). Am I that uncompetitive?!? This one has hit me especially hard and has severely impacted my confidence for the remaining three schools. Sigh... My fortitude is being tested, that is for sure.
  14. Thanks guys. I spoke with someone from the student legal services at the U and have an appointment for Monday. The woman said basically the same thing, to talk with one of their lawyers before contacting FAFSA. So now I am in the process of getting it expunged from my record as quickly as possible, which should take around three months. Yikes!
