  1. Not sure about that. History and philosophy of science is a completely separate department here so the admissions processes won't be connected. Hoping for your sake they do announce though!!! Wishing everyone the best.
  2. Also keep in mind for those applying to Madison that the history department really does not have much say over funding. Their system works like this:they send a list to the graduate school with their recommendations for ALL funding packages (not just top fellowships) then all history students go into a pool with social science/humanities students, and the grad school assigns funding based on whatever factors they think will guarantee a good student and make them look good as a graduate program. The professors there really do not like the system, but it is worth knowing how it works.
  3. So much love for IU! It really is a great place. So many great faculty members as well as students. Great department culture and awesome people coming into talk/network with all the time! If anyone has any questions about it feel free to be in touch or let me know if you are visiting!
  4. You just send one. When you go through the process on the GRE website it will ask for the school then a specific department code. PS message me if you have any questions or anything about IU or if you are visiting! I just started here and am really enjoying it.
  5. I will say that my POI (a rising star in my field) said that if she hadn't met me before...she would not have taken me as a student. She wasn't even planning on taking students but upon meeting me, said she thought we would be a great match (that comes off conceited but, hey, she said it ) I think you should have questions about her advising style and research and expect a short meeting. I think that having an advisor that wants to be involved and supportive is important so seeing if he/she is willing to meet would tell me much about them, unless of course they are not able to meet you for some legitimate reason.
  6. 2012: Accepted at UIC (PhD full fellowship) and UWM (MA_ 2014: 17 applications- accepted at Michigan, Indiana, UNM, Oklahoma, SMU, Madison, and UWM. Attending: Indiana University with a focus in Early American, Native American history, likely specifically in the Ohio River Valley this was a nice idea!
  7. Hello all! I just went through this last application cycle and will be bopping in to this next cycle to offer any words of advice/encouragement that I can! I study early American/Native American history and had a very successful application cycle (as I was typing that last part of that sentence it felt SO weird because I still do not believe it is true). Feel free to message me with questions. A summary of my path: BA in history, MA in history, now PhD so no gaps, just straight through. I wish you all the best! Many people on here helped me through this, and I hope to do the same.
  8. @maelia Indiana offered me an assistantship at the Journal of American history and a perfectly placed fellowship year. The opportunities there were too amazing to turn down. Also, there is a new set of documents that are just being organized/processed in their archives in my area of interest. My POI there had met before, and seeing her again reminded me how well we got along and of her vision of my time at IU. Also, my partner will be going there as well, which is just icing on the cake Indiana made it very easy for me with their generous offer and opportunities. I am beyond excited!
  9. Hey all, Just thought I would start a thread for anyone/everyone heading to IU next year so we can be in touch! So, who is heading there, and what are you working on?! Looking forward to meeting you all!
  10. Anyone else apply to Columbia and not been rejected or accepted? Yay for limbo!
  11. silver medal
  12. ditto on that!
  13. I got waitlisted too woohoo! Here's to waitin for LONGER! ha
  14. I don't think there was an interview, no.
  15. Yes, I have a friend that has received an offer from history and will be visiting there soon with funding from the department.
  16. I'm on the wait list too. They said in the email, "In recent years we have been able to extend offers of admission to anywhere from several to a half-dozen or more students from the waitlist." So to me that means between 3-6? But probably depends how many people take the offers this year. Best of luck!

  20. Who wants to claim the penn admit?! I'm officially nervous!
  21. willful act
  22. Penn did send an email out saying specifically to not contact them regarding admissions and that they would report by late February so I might just wait for them to give news (which should be coming soon)
  23. Any idea when we'll be hearing news?!?! Thanks so much for the update!!
  24. I keep trying to tell myself that, but I know it's hard to stick to it. Glad we can remind each other all we can do is wait and support each other!
