  1. I posted this under the Econ forum but decided to cast my net here as well: I got admitted into the Graduate Institute of Geneva (IHEID) Msc International Economics and into my second choice at the BGSE which was Msc Macroeconomic policy and Financial Markets (my first choice was their Msc Economics). No aid for either, which is kind of worrying, but I am exploring scholarship options from other avenues. I am leaning towards the IHEID but it is more expensive than the BGSE by about $36,000. This is because the tuition is higher by $8000 and it runs for two years compared to the BGSE 1 year. My Long run plan is to go for a PhD in Economics, so I want a quantitatively sound program. My extension on my decision for BGSE runs out in a few days. I need to make a decision. How do the programs/schools compare?

  3. They extended it! yay! Perhaps you should call. It is more effective than emailing. This is what I have gathered from this tedious admissions process. Goodluck!
  4. Argh! The second school is quite good and was my top choice for awhile. I am somewhat confident of my chances in regards to my top choice, but not really. If that makes any sense. I would think these universities would co-ordinate themselves as to avoid these kinds of common troubles. I am gonna call my second choice tonight and see if I can shift it a few days back. I don't trust my chances though. I just mind end up accepting the offer
  5. I applied to only two school; which I now realize is not a great idea. One is my top choice, the other is my secound top choice. I got an admission offer (no aid - MSc - 1 year) from my secound top choice for my secound choice program. They informed me of the decision fairly quickly in February. The problem is that my top choice is yet is send out admission decisions. They were supposed to begin on March 1st but they sent out an email saying they were still working on it and will get it out before the 14th. I just called in today and they say they are still working on it and will get it out before the 16th. The other school is understandably getting antsy with me. I got an extension on my admission acceptance date till March 12th and I am already receiving prodding emails from the head of the department. I considered accepting the other school's admission to be safe; but I will have to put down a $600 deposit. My first choice is obviously the school I am leaning towards, but with only two choices I cannot reject the other school if I am not assured admission. Now I am in full panic mode. I don't know what to do. PS: I foresaw this kind of dilemma occurring so I applied early decision to my top choice. But one of my professors sent out my letter of recommendation really late (and after intense prodding) so my application was pushed to the regular period.
  6. Just endured some intense heart palpitations. My #1 choice that is supposed to be sending out admission decisions March 1st - 14th, sent me an email titled "Admission and scholarship decision" and the snippet view on my phone is Dear candidate we are happy to inform... I slid down the couch, clutching my chest, then scrolled down and read: ...you that we have started processing the Admission and scholarship decisions. We hope to be able to send out all the letters and emails by 14th March What! but why? what is this? How can they do this to me? :o EDIT: OH MY Goodness CarefreeWritingsontheWall THAT WAS THE EMAIL. What are they thinking sending that out now?! And why haven't they made decisions already? Is Lord Voldemort running the admissions department? so evil
  7. Thanks guys. Iphi you were right. I called them to ask. They confirmed that it was mass-sent! Argh...ohh well, till March 15th. I feel you llaura_lg. This wait is killing me. It's my top choice.
  8. So I applied early decision to IHEID international economics program. Today I woke up to an email: Dear Student, Following your application we have pleasure in sending you further information regarding the various options for accommodation at the Edgar de Picciotto Student House. Then I went to their website and read under "important dates" 23 January: Admitted students will received by email the link to the application form of the Residence. But I didn't recieve an admission letter. And the housing email was mass-sent and not customized . Is this common? I am kinda paranoid that the email could be a mistake.
