Crisoch, I see you were accepted to WSU’s program! Congrats! A friend of mine applied there and I think is still waiting to hear back. When did you get your notification, if you don’t mind me asking?

Seriously. I didn’t apply to BU, but I’m still waiting on formal responses from four schools and, while I’m confident that they are rejections, I feel like I’m stuck in limbo until I have confirmation.

This term is absolutely derogatory in nature. How would you feel if I said “blacky” was slang, not a slur? Racism works both ways. Speaking in a pejorative manner about any group is unacceptable--even those who you feel like are privileged. PS: I absolutely welcome male voices in Women’s Studies and Gender Studies. Anyone who doesn’t clearly doesn’t understand the intention of the field.

Waiting is the worst. I’m still waiting to hear back from four schools too. I’m getting super excited about UEA. I think it’s going to be great, though I’m not looking forward to going through the application process again in August. Haha.

Well, you know, watching Pretty Little Liars and eating ice cream....because I’m an adult and I do what I want. Haha. I’m also looking at apartments near the University of East Anglia Woot! What’s new on your end?

I’m in the same boat. Haven’t yet received my rejection and just want it done!

I just fell asleep for a few minutes while eating and woke up with a noodle on my face. This is grad school, folks. I feel no shame.

Done! I have 20 schools picked out. Most are on the west coast, but I’m throwing in a couple New York schools.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Proflorax--I’m struggling with location, campus culture, and my ability to successfully research what I want at that particular university. I think I could make one or two of those things work, but I don’t think I could do all three. Despejado is 100% right. I think that’s probably the best plan at this point. I would love to go to UEA if I can swing the funding. If not, I might just adjunct for a year while fixing my writing sample and perfecting my statement of purpose. I needed your blunt opinion, for sure. If I wasn’t out of up votes, I would totally be showing your post some love. Thanks Edit: Waiting would also give me a chance to re-take the Subject Test and expand my options for schools next year. I’ve decided I want to stay on the West Coast and a lot of the “UC’s” require it.

Accepted to a school, fully-funded, visited the campus....and really don’t see myself there for five years. Turn it down or try to stick it out? PS: A second congrats do Des because I’m so happy! Hooray Syracuse!

I’ll also echo the Culler suggestion. The same series also includes “Critical Theory: A Very Short Introduction” by Stephen Eric Bronner. It’s a great supplement, as well.

I'm definitely unqualified to comment on this, but I probably wouldn't bring it up. If they wait listed you, they like you. We all made silly mistakes. I would just go, knock their socks off with how impressive you are, and have confidence in yourself.

They sent out acceptances a while ago, but hadn't made all of their decisions. I'm in limbo, as well. Sending positive vibes your way.
