  1. I would like to remind everyone to please post their results in the submit results page above- interviews, rejections, and acceptances. This helps everyone out. Thanks!
  2. I keep oscillating between high optimism and confidence to complete insecurity and doubt. Its pretty ridiculous when I think about it. Much more important things to worry and stress about. And yet... I should make a short film about it.
  3. I mean, not about the faculty- just the digital capabilities.
  4. This was concern with UCLA as well- especially as I'm also working with 3d printing and doing a lot of digital work. Congrats on the SAIC interviews to all who got them!!!
  5. Congrats marzipanned and print&draw on your MICA Mt. Royal interviews!
  6. Congrats klp!!! wm000, personally I think it would be bad form to send a list of questions during the admissions process to a professor. I would direct any questions you have to the admissions advisor. Also, if you want feedback on your work, I would send an email first requesting whether they would be able and willing to offer any feedback on your work and if so, when would be a good time to for them to look at it.
  7. Isn't there the question of location as well? To me, it seemed that your heart was certainly in one place, but perhaps you should also see if you can arrange to revisit and talk with some of the professors and see what kind of a rapport you have with them?
  8. Personally, I think it would be the appropriate thing to withdraw an application if you are certain you will not be going there.
  9. I would guess she is going out to celebrate... I certainly would
  10. Congrats iomarch! I'm guessing you will probably go? Yay!!!
  11. Very realistic. I'm curious about the rest of the show and how this piece relates.
  12. Congrats UCSD interviewees!!! Looks like a great program! Good luck!
  13. I called them yesterday to express my concern about travelling there and they told me that it would be best to wait and visit after acceptance if I felt uncomfortable travelling there. Also, that the visitation was primarily to become more informed about their program and would have no bearing on acceptance. Still, I was very excited about seeing the school and meeting some of the grad students so I'm pretty bummed. Even if I'm not considered, it would have been great to see what is going on there.
  14. Congrats EDay27! iomarch, I'm older than you are and I've seen older grad students around. Plus, you have one acceptance under your belt and UCDavis sometimes has excellent funding- or so I've heard.
  15. Loric, I'm guessing you are referring to the film industry and I having been involved I can say that if you want in, you will find a way in. If that is the case, you should realize that film making is a group effort and it takes a TEAM to make something great. It is easy for me to spot the weak link in a film (whether director, writing, acting, casting, music, editing, etc.) and EGOS can kill a project faster than anything. I've seen/read about it time and again. I worked with Bruce Dern awhile ago and at the time got to hear quite a bit about the business. I moved to LA shortly after, and got to know quite about the business while there. There are shady elements just as there can be in the art world, but its up to you to remember who you are and what you truly want. If you love film and desire to make beautiful scenery/art or combine the two you will find a way. Glad you got a message from someone you admire. Just remember that there are many ways to approach a dream. You may feel shut out- just find another way.
  16. kierstin is on a role! Good luck on that one too! Does anyone know if CMU does interviews? From what I can tell in past postings they do not, but I'm not sure.
  17. I was thinking about this as well the other day- because plenty of people are applying and only a few here. Congrats on the UT Austin interview!
  18. Well, the majority of people who get a BFA in visual arts also do not become a professional visual artist. Most decide to pursue different jobs or have realized that being an artist is a full time commitment- one they don't really want to make. Probably a good number move into related fields where they can use their creativity. Its a hard knock life!
  19. Congrats, Yellow Magnet! No interviews, but two of the schools on my list state that there won't be any admissions decisions until late March/early April- Mills and FSU. I see you applied to CMU as well and their process is a mystery to me other than that offers may come late February? The snow has blown in so its not looking very good for Thursday. Oh well.
  20. Thanks! It would be nice. I was just talking to some grads here about applying for grad school and one of them mentioned that I should look at Mills.
  21. Quotes like this: "With its dreamy campus full of grassy meadows, tree-lined streets, squirrels, and swimming pools, Mills churns out high-quality batches of Masters of Fine Art who all seem to make fresh and positive work. Many artists I've interviewed have mentioned a need to shake their grad school restrictions out of their heads as if they need to undo a brainwashing. But I suspect it's different for the students at Mills. They seem to grow and develop exactly as they need to, then hit the ground running, with momentum, straight out of the gate. When they graduate, I picture them hugging and crying like kids boarding the buses home from the best summer camp ever." - from an art review by Kristin Farr. I believe I was reminded of them from this board under the schools with the best funding thread. It only came up at 50+%, but I guess I was being overly hopeful. The second year has pretty good funding with 15 hours a week TA (if you qualify). Still, I would need to try to find a way to fund it. The place seems very calm and serene, yet intellectually stimulating. Its in the SFbay area, but Oakland is more affordable. Looking at their grads work and their faculty, I thought it may be a good fit for me. It lacks a few things I would like to have access to, but it has a lot of my "wish" list.
  22. Yay, iomarch! Great to get the call! They have to know that people get nervous and blank on these phone calls, right?
