I'm pumping out the positivity as much for myself as for anyone else. I feel the roller coaster as well- just trying to keep from falling into the well of "what if"- especially since there may be two more months of waiting...
-
I think this whole process is actually really helpful- and if nothing comes of it this time, I will be better prepared the next go around. But, I understand what you mean. Its difficult to wait and sometimes the thoughts go to: what if I get rejected all around? The answer: enjoy the break and make your application stronger. I know that I will still be a working artist (even if not paid), just not within academia- so it won't kill me. I think that is the best way to look at it. There are alternatives out there- even internships, etc.- no matter what your field.

So far, the friendliest and most personal emails (though I know that are sent to all applicants) that I have received have been from Mills. I know it doesn't mean anything, but they are nice to receive anyway.

The campus looks extraordinary, so I don't see that being an issue whatsoever. However, if we get the snowstorm they are expecting, I probably won't make it there

There are at least a couple of grad parents in our program and they manage it just fine. One even has younger twins. I couldn't believe it when I met them! I asked her how she does it and between her husband and family close by (probably the reason she chose to come here) they make it work. As the above poster said, you just need to balance your time wisely.

The more I look at their program, the more excited I become about it! There is the Studio for Creative Inquiry, Human Computer Interaction Institute, the Robotics Institute- it would be great to have access to such innovative technology! Biggest drawback that I can see is that it is in Pittsburgh and I really wanted to go somewhere where the sun keeps shining. Going to visit on their last MFA day this Thursday to become more informed- just in case.

Very top of the page under the coffee cup

Great news! I hope they offer you a great package!

congrats! good luck!

I wouldn't think it would be creepy. Some schools state explicitly on their website that they cannot give feedback (and I would think that it would be difficult if there are hundreds of applicants). I would think others would be more accommodating and willing to share. It would be nice to hear the reason and get some constructive criticism (such as not right fit, undeveloped SOP, unclear portfolio, etc.).

I think its a good program. I almost went there for undergrad, but couldn't swing it even with the merit scholarship they offered. I still kept the big beautiful book they sent me. Someone in my program now went there and had to transfer to our school (probably due to costs) and he couldn't get ours to accept the painting credits from there. Anyway, didn't apply for grad school due to their 1 full and 1 partial scholarship policy, but I do like the classes they offer and their location. A recent grad of their MFA photo program came to give a talk last fall about his work and I thought it was pretty spectacular. He really loved it there.

congrats mlk!

That isn't to underplay those that got accepted as that is celebratory news! Just saying that those that didn't shouldn't be beating themselves up about it.

I actually feel that you should have considered VCU, but I understand what you are saying (and my applications show it). For me, I considered many other factors. The only "top tier" school I applied to is Carnegie Mellon. Its a really unique program and I'd love to be a part of it, but I also know that so few get in. For those that applied to Yale and did not get accepted... keep your chins up! For those that did get an interview, congratulations towards the next step! As past forums have revealed, its a weird process and who knows what there selection process consist of. Didn't someone write that the first stage is selected by current grad students?

Congrats! I didn't apply there because I lived most of my life there, but I did consider it as it appears to have a pretty good program for sculpture. That is odd they are selling off equipment that is pretty necessary for a sculptor though...

Movie making, acting, video games-

Those seem like two entirely different programs and I would seriously consider what you truly want to be focusing on. Hunter's IMA program looks pretty fascinating to me and actually has a lot in common with my artist's statement. I didn't even know about this program at all. It seems to list two different dates for admission deadlines. One page says February 1st for international and another for all. Maybe call and make sure?

Well, I think we are all in the same boat, tofutuesday. I think focusing on other enjoyable activities is a great idea. And maybe some meditation. And you are in a great location to distract yourself!

Congrats, iomarch! I love those questions they asked you! Good luck!

I guess I should post here as well. I flew out to LA as well to visit UCLA and loved the place, although I wish I had gone a week later when they had their open studio. I was interested in their New Genres program and was actually at one point ONLY going to apply there. By the time the deadline was coming up, a series of unfortunate events occurred (weather, card got hacked) and I knew that the DVD's wouldn't make it on time (POLAR VORTEX)! So, I let it go... Oh well. It made me look more closely at FSU, which I hadn't even considered before and they have some pretty exciting things going on there. It is fully funded and all grads have to participate (in some fashion) in Art Basel every year in Miami. One of my professors went there for grad school and she couldn't say enough good things about it. I've always been interested in Mills due to its phenomenal electronic music program and the grad shows look pretty spectacular. Plus, the campus looks amazing. But not sure if I can afford it. Carnegie Mellon's program looks incredible and I love that it is interdisciplinary with access to other programs as well (robotics, theatre, dance, etc.) However, very few admits and I haven't yet done much social, contextual practice. University of Denver EDP is very unique, but I'm concerned that it will be TOO technical. However, it is really new and the possibilities are rather exciting to think about. And its in Denver- a great, liberal city with a lot of outdoor, interactive, progressive art. Downside- expensive I hear, and even if I get in, I probably won't be able to afford it. But keeping my fingers crossed. Sigh. Probably a month to go to find out from any of these. I need to focus on something else. Oh yeah, as amazing as Art Center looks, I went through the cost of attendance and its not a possibility for me- even after allowing for scholarships and loans. blah, blah, blah- If nothing else, it made me more prepared for the next round if necessary.

I was in the same boat, except I waited longer. Not because I didn't want to go to grad school though- for other considerations. Looks like you got a good list there though with some well funded programs. I thought the UGA photo program looked pretty sweet (I also do photo, but not my main focus) and Athens looks amazing (and affordable) to me. Good luck!

Also, congratulations on the interview! It may have went better than you thought.

That is what I am most concerned about happening in an interview situation. That I will completely blank out and be all "Lamp, I love lamp"

I meant sculpture if it were at Cranbrook. I really need access to faculty/grads/doctoral students with coding and advanced technological knowledge for me to be able to proceed in the direction my work is going. Currently I have little access to such departments and I have to do a lot of research on my own. Not that I mind that, but my work would develop much more quickly with such access.

I guess it would have to be sculpture. My undergrad major will be in sculpture, but I am doing a lot of time-based work with video and sound as well as those that rely on interactivity with the viewer/public. Performance is also an element.
