Care to elaborate on the bad vibe? I didn't apply there, just curious.

This made me laugh. LOL. I think facilities and training (research and clinical) are huge factors to consider. I don't even think Ivy Leagues have SLP programs, so that's not really what people are saying. In SLP, the "big names" = "highly ranked" = "well-reputed" = "assumed to have better training" from what I understand. It doesn't matter in the university at large is highly ranked - but the SLP department itself. As always, the student and the school both matter. A sucky student at a better program may not learn as much as an excellent student at a sucky setting. Connections, fit, funding, all matter. Lots of factors to consider. Good luck to everyone making these tough choices. I, for one, feel lucky to be able to pick between excellent programs.

"Cancer Biology PhD Applicant" That makes sense coming from your field. STEM tends to have the funding... Especially PhD. This really depends on the field, and of course what field you chose depends on so many factors itself...

I did USU 2nd bach. 2nd bach is preferable IMO because each school as a different list of pre-reqs. Mine was about $10-12k total for 3 semesters total. The classes are honestly really good if you put in the time and "talk" with professors and peers. It's up to you. Let me know if you have other questions. I'm on a wait list - I'm considering it a rejection. Not going to do anything. I don't suggest "making your case"... Maybe "expressing your interest"? Or asking for a status update? Just my thoughts.

Are you me?!!! I am in the exact same position. I'm 23 and I have a low, middle, and high option. These schools are far away so I will be visiting them over the next 2 weekends. It has been giving me a lot of stress and anxiety. To those that are saying "schools don't matter in SLP"... How do we know for sure? I know that at the end of the day, SLP is SLP. A hiring agency probably won't care. But what about more competitive places to work, such as the best hospitals or the best school districts? A top-notch program may give you an edge in getting the best jobs across the nation right out of graduate school, which sets you up for higher salaries your entire career. That being said, we all have different money management styles and priorities. If you want to be the most cost effective, obviously go for the cheapest. But is that really the only and biggest factor? Hmmmm. Maybe, maybe not. These are not easy choices. EDIT: Forgot to mention - you don't want to be in crippling debt either!!! Oh lord. Every time I look at a big sticker price I have a heart attack.

Have you accepted an offer? How does this work if students have to pick before the 15th but schools won't say wait list info until after the 15?! At which point people have already committed elsewhere... That doesn't seem right.

Hope everyone is doing okay. I'm freaking about looking at the worst case scenario of $100k debt.

Exactly. No one is saying to rush your decision making process. If schools don't notify before April 15th then... Wouldn't everyone else have already chosen another program? (Assuming they had multiple offers.) For the record, I'm not waiting on wait lists but I am an alternate for funding at my top choice right now.

I don't know. Some schools provide better training and have more resources. I don't think they're all exactly equal. However, you get the same degree and comparable job prospects regardless of school.

Found out I was an alternate for funding at Vanderbilt. Sticker price for Vandy is 3x my state school... Did anyone else hear back?

I'm in a very similar boat. I have 2 "top 5" offers with price tags of $65-75k+! In-state school about $25k. Undergrad debt: $5k So I can relate to what you might be feeling. I don't know. I'm torn but I don't want nearly 6 figures of debt (above figures do not include cost of living) for 2 years of schooling. Please take rankings with a grain of salt! Did you check the methodology for the rankings? They are just a survey ranking them 1-5. Average scores, and voila, rankings.

I'm looking at price tags of $75k or $25k. Surely one school can't be worth 3x the price of another?

An out of state school and for a private school. I got a scholarship for the first year at the state school. Alternate for funding at the private school. Either way I'm looking at over $50k of debt for those two programs (which were my top 2 choices).

I am looking that the tuition rate and getting really sad.

It is a partial tuition scholarship for the first year.
