Since professional courtesy has been brought up, I want to make a PSA: Please withdraw/decline schools that you don't want to attend ASAP! I know many of us are/were waiting on funding, etc., but please make decisions ASAP. You can only go to one school. If you have multiple offers, please be courteous and only hold a maximum of 2 (maybe 3?) at a time... You don't have to do anything until April 15th, but why wait that late? You probably know which schools you prefer - go ahead and drop the rest. It might give someone a chance to go to those schools from wait list, etc.

Really discouraged right now about funding.

You have got to be joking.

What is her goal? Getting a master's may not help her get into a PhD psych program... PhD psych programs look at many factors, and research experience is a big one. You mentioned she is a "great student" - so is almost everyone else applying to graduate school. Does she have any research experience (posters, pubs)? How was her GRE? GPA? Letters of Rec? Did she have a strong and focused personal statement? These are the factors that help people get into PhD clinical psych programs. If she was rejected outright (no interviews), my guess is that she was grossly under-prepared. It's great that she wants to prepare. I just want to let you know that you can prepare with or without a master's degree. You can get a master's degree and still be under-prepared. Also - a master's will not help her finish her PhD later on. It may get her out of a class or two, but that's it. Best of luck and please let me know if you have other questions.

The thing is that more is almost always more in terms of research output. Having a pub (regardless of authorship) would definitely make you stand out in a pile of applicants. However, by no stretch of the imagination is it a requirement. It's also not a guaranteed admission ticket. At the undergraduate level, poster presentations are most likely going to be your bread and butter in terms of research output. Also - "undergrads" with pubs often have taken time after they graduate to complete them. That way, they're not juggling coursework and a pub. Good luck!

An undergrad publishing a peer-reviewed pub is highly uncommon is ANY field. Even more rare as a first author. Let's not lose sight of reality here. You're not applying for tenure, you're apply for graduate school.

The website has purposefully vague and noncommittal wording. "If available"... Well, that's a big "if." Lol. This is typical of graduate programs though - they can't really guarantee anything but programs tend to have a track record of what they have been able to provide in the past. Since the last visit day is April 3, I am hoping to we hear back well before that. Maybe this week? Or next? Is anyone going to the one tomorrow?

That has to be a record. At $50 per application, that comes out to $1,400. Yikes...

Financial Aid Emails Before Acceptance?
Saila09 replied to ChatterBrain's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Really? Where? I have never noticed that. My understanding was that they were "made available" to those schools ASAP. When/if the schools look at it, that's up to them. -
Another point to consider is that PhD programs are much more likely to fund you than MS/MA programs.

Utah State Online Post-Bach and Acceptance
Saila09 replied to caligirl88's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I don't think you can do this. I think you need to have a first bachelor's completed. Please double check with them to be sure. I didn't apply to CA schools, but I got into 2 of the "top 5" programs with USU's post-bacc. I had 1 LoR from an online USU professor as well. For full disclosure, I think I had lots of other strengths as an applicant... but I want people to know that this is a legit and reputable program. Good luck everyone! -
Vanderbilt SLP Applicants
Saila09 replied to kellyfussman's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Hi everyone, I just got accepted to Vanderbilt SLP this morning! Tons of acceptances were posted on the results so that's probably the best place to check stats. I've posted by stats before, but honestly I wouldn't get too hung up on them. OP - looks like you have tons of extracurriculars and a perfect GPA. Nice job! Do you have any research experience? Best of luck to everyone. -
Financial Aid Emails Before Acceptance?
Saila09 replied to ChatterBrain's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
It doesn't mean anything. Their financial aid departments are separate from admissions. Did you send your FAFSA to these programs? That is probably what's prompting those e-mails. -
A video?!! That's crazy, I have never heard of that before for grad admissions.
