  1. Quick thing on the increases in certain places: I was told as well that they would be adding a lot of grants. I assume people were operating on the assumption that it would be easier to get one. Brazil last year had a last minute influx as well for the world cup (keep in mind their fulbright starts in January-February). I know this because I have a friend that was in the 2012-2013 cycle, and was renewed (along with other people in her year) for another cycle. They decided at the last minute that they wanted a lot more grantees than before, and called back lots of people they had previously said they declined or had as an alternate. People probably got wind of this, and thought the influx would continue. But I see lots of countries where there was a decline instead. Only 9 applicants to Bosnia, down from 18. I keep wondering if this is good or bad for my odds if they only take 2....
  2. No, I didn't get an email like this. But I will say that I think this type of email is kind of silly. They've got to know that we're waiting with bated breath for any and all Fulbright emails. It's like a while back when they sent the surveys to fill out about the application. I just feel like no emails that aren't decisions should be sent out in the next three weeks.
  3. I should keep tally of the number of times I've looked at the forum's Fulbright spreadsheet. I suppose I should be more concerned with my comprehensive exam so I can graduate with my masters in May. Wish me luck-- I'm sure I'll need it.
  4. As long as you're gracious, I can't see how it would come across as arrogant. Tell the professor that you are excited at the prospect of working with him, however you do want to make sure he's informed about your situation. If you're able to portray that you're thankful for the opportunity, but also want to take an opportunity that you absolutely can't defer, then you'll be fine. Better yet, make sure this is a conversation, not just an email (if possible).
  5. I was able to get the application out of my head for a solid week... and now I see people have gotten notifications. I could scream with terror. Any word on the Balkans?
  6. Y'all, the stress is eating me alive. I thought recommended Bosnia applicants were supposed to get an interview, but I haven't heard anything yet! If I was a nail biter, I'd have absolutely no nails.
  7. So helpful. I figured that was the case, but its good to see an actual document!
  8. Hey everyone! Hope the waiting isn't eating you alive... I'm an ETA applicant to Bosnia & Herzegovina, and I've been seeing the beginnings of a good amount of political upheaval in the news. It could go either way, but I'm not so sure it will get too out of hand if the government responds quickly. Anyone know what the protocol is for countries undergoing some kind of political unrest? It doesn't seem to be violent, nor does it seem to be indicative of a coming regime change. Just seems like aggressive mass protests in the streets. Few buildings set on fire, lots of unemployed people in the streets, a bit of police action. Its highly likely I wouldn't be placed in the capital city anyway. But if it gets worse, do they reassign the Fulbright winners elsewhere? Whats the protocol?
  9. The excitement is totally warranted. That's amazing! Way to show everyone that where there's a will, theres a way.
  10. I'd take the Fulbright, but that's just me. It'd only boost your qualifications, so I can't imagine they'd defund you. But that's just me. Any way you could find out how likely it is for them to take your funding away? Worst case scenario, apply to another school if they take your funding away. Don't GO there, but use their funding to prove to your 1st choice that they aren't your only option, and need to resurrect that competitive offer. You don't want to have a shoulda coulda woulda scenario. Keep focusing on making yourself better while you're on your ETA, and there's no way they wont give funding when you return, because you'll be the bomb. They'll be lucky to have you.
  11. Hey everyone! I've been a forum watcher for a while, but finally made an account. Was just recommended for Bosnia & Herzegovina! Anyone other BiH applicants hear back? Congrats to everyone who got a recommendation, and ultimate sad faces for those who didn't. This is my second time applying, so cross your fingers! Also: My friend did an ETA in Vietnam in 2012, and found out around April 30th.
