  1. To the best of my knowledge, there is no official open house. At least not that I was made aware of (please, someone correct me if I'm missing out on an awesome planned event). And the date is flexible, but they obviously would like to know sooner rather than later so they can go to their wait list earlier.
  2. ...shit. Well, there goes that possibility!
  3. But don't spend too much time crafting that email. Make sure you at least acknowledge the offer the day it's made. (Found this out the hard way. Talk about awkward phone calls)
  4. I think that they notify acceptances first by phone. At least that's what the board indicates, unless you were coming off the wait list.
  5. We scheduled a call to talk about the offer they made me last week in more detail.
  6. I don't know if I actually posted it or not. And again, this isn't definitive responses, just general information I've gotten from departments. BU said they would try to make decisions within "the next few weeks." Brandeis told me, as I asked in relation to March 15, that they would likely not have a decision out by that time. UWashington said they'd hopefully have decisions made by that time, but couldn't promise it. So, that's what I know. Just got off the phone with the DGS at UConn. It's not going to be an easy decision for me to make.
  7. Having heard back from DGS/offices at all my remaining schools (minus Purdue, because rolling admissions = no certainty), I've determined outside of Rutgers, I won't be hearing anything else for a few more weeks. Sa-weet.
  8. No word yet. When I had spoken with the DGS he said "some time next week." Which could be today. Or tomorrow. But hopefully it's sooner.
  9. Depends. Do you have a wig you can wear?
  10. I second that. But I also am trying to use acceptances as leverage to see what kind of deals I can get. Options are wonderful. And horrific. And are contributing to my impostor syndrome like woah.
  11. For those playing along at home, I spoke with the dept administrator from Brandeis and they said it's unlikely they would have my decision out before mid-March.
  12. Yup. It's a thing. And I will find a way to make it. What, it's normal to eat your wine in a seminar, right?
  13. For the record, BU said decisions would be made within the next couple of weeks.
  14. I'm smoking a Boston butt right now, drinking my fair share of wine, and baking a chocolate blackout cake.
  15. Yes. Exactly. Most programs disapprove of the practice because it pressures applicants to make decisions, fearing a loss of funding if they don't make a choice. The idea behind the April 15th deadline is to give us time to make a sound decision without that pressure. I'd also email the school (I'm pretty sure Horb you said you were in at UConn) and ask if there's room for extending that deadline as you won't have heard back from all your programs.
  16. Because of UConn's March 15th deadline (which, might I add, they say "preferably," not definitively, and not with threats of not providing funding if you don't respond by then seeing as they signed that resolution,) I also emailed some remaining programs. Just be up front about it, give dates and school names, and most DGS that have responded to myself and others I know in similar situations have been very understanding/disapproving of said practices.
  17. Damn phone replied before I typed. I haven't heard from BU, but historically they draw from their MA. Yeah, check where their current PhDs got their degrees. I shouldn't have bothered with that one.
  18. As a Food Studies person, I approve of this discussion.
  19. Balls. A Stanford is up.
  20. I had spoken with the DGS and he said they were still making their decisions, and that they'd notify some time next week.
  21. Too soon. I can't handle a 2015 thread in the midst of of the 2014 season.
  22. Finally got that Pittsburgh rejection letter in the mail. Took long enough!
