  1. That's such a shame. I guess programs have different reasons to want to interview someone (trying to lure someone into their program vs. trying to figure out fit). WEIRD.
  2. I keep them in a Google spreadsheet for quick access, but I can't click fast enough to satisfy myself! I've had job interviews like that, and it is maddening! I didn't hear from them for an interview, so I won't be surprised if there's a rejection waiting for me, but since it's high on my list, I will be a bit disappointed...
  3. Oh, you know, frantically refreshing and digging out my PINs for every conceivable program to be heard from today... And two ND acceptances! (Congrats, whoever you are!) ETA: Two ND acceptances on the board, at least! Not me, I am a nervous wreck.
  4. How are you keeping it together, lonestar? Are you just leaving Game Theory??
  5. There went my last-hour-of-work burst of productivity. Goodness. *refresh refresh refresh*
  6. Can anyone claim, or say where it came from? Generic email or personal?
  7. Best I know of isn't for me, but for a friend in another field who was accepted to the #1 and #2 programs in their particular discipline and sub-field (Columbia & Yale) and rejected from their safeties. All this has done is lend credibility to my conspiracy theory that programs talk to each other about applicants before making offers.* *In all seriousness, I do think programs probably weigh the likelihood that Well-Qualified Candidate X will choose another, higher-ranked program over theirs, especially if candidates tell them where they submitted other apps.
  8. Hang in there. Positives to come! And even if there is a sea of red boxes, this is a fun crowd to weep along with.
  9. Then I have a 50% chance of hearing from one of my schools today! (That's how it works, right? )
  10. Nay! Merely an advocate for the utilitarian distribution of chocolate and the champion of chocovidualism! Call it ChoCarthyism! Call it whatever you like, but give me (my very specific preferred) chocolate or give me death!
  11. That's Chocommunism and I won't have anything to do with it!
  12. Of course. So do I, except a few small things...
  13. So's mine, and I'm still just waiting! (But I expect it would be a little different if I got an acceptance. Congratulations again!)
  14. Oh, that's wretched. You win the game of suck. Nothing that happens to me this week, not even across-the-board rejections, will be that unpleasant.
  15. Congratulations!
  16. No, no, the chocolate is supposed to help with the nerves! Or so I keep telling myself.
  17. Now, if only there were a karmic way to allocate the buttercreams to people (like you) who love them, and the nut-chocolates to people (like me) who are devoted to them. I expect I'd like buttercreams more if there hadn't been that traumatizing disappointment where I ate one expecting something radically different.
  18. So there are people who eat those!
  19. I've only heard from one, and I'm still chomping at the bit waiting to get answers. I have now thoroughly convinced myself that I'm getting rejected everywhere and have started my spreadsheet for Fall 2015 applications. I'm not sure this is healthy. Chocolate, booze, and self-pity, however, are totally healthy! Semi-annual Cheap Chocolate Day is something you don't stop celebrating, even long after the days of the undergraduate budget. It's a solid win for everyone! I might even indulge in a fancy chocolate sampler that doesn't have the gross buttercreams in it!
  20. Heartily fourthed! (Or fifthed?) I don't care if this is an emotionally difficult week, I will binge on raspberry hershey kisses and bourbon and watch romcoms to soothe the disappointment, but at least it'll be over!
  21. Has anyone else received an interview request? Is this only happening for international students (if I am reading through the above comments right)? /fret
  22. I'm armed and prepared for next week, since I'm beginning to suspect it's going to be an ugly one for me. (I have the bourbon all ready and waiting. I might make a special stop to the Valentine chocolate aisle myself.) I have the same image, but probably because it's what I would do if I were them!
  23. Congratulations!!!! That's such wonderful news! (I expect I'll be married within the next year or two, but we're trying to balance the grad school thing with saving to pull it together!)
  24. Any historical data to suggest that departments might send decisions at COB today so they can flee the office immediately before we can recover enough to send questions?
  25. There is some relief in just hearing something, even if it is a reject! Hoping you hear from one of them soon.
