Congratulations to the Washington admissions! Yay!
-
Congratulations! That's so wonderful! Noooooo, I hope not, in any case! (The rest of you are entitled to your own hopes...)

I heartily agree. I have job applications floating around to maneuver into another position in my field, I'm afraid to sign another lease on an apartment in case I have to break it, and even if I don't get in anywhere, I have to make decisions about this stuff! I think we all would like to know what is happening to us in six months. So, with that in mind, maybe it's not totally irrational to be anxiously checking all the time!

Oh dear. No, he is just very irritated to find me refreshing my email at 3 AM instead of sleeping. Possibly because I should chill out and just let it happen, but rationality is out the window at this point already!

My partner gives me a side-eye every time my phone beeps an email notification and I reach for it immediately. Especially in the middle of the night.

Gifts for LOR writers - the best of the best

Combination of home addresses (if you have them), or to their school address (which might be less awkward for you). You could also call someone on department staff and ask how to arrange for sending gifts to them. -
Thanks for the clarification for everyone, and for following up with this! This was, IIRC, the theme of my rejection from Ohio State, and I have to say that I am very grateful for that particular approach to rejections!

This has been my reaction to that god-forsaken (1) for the last week. >:|

I just checked mine and it says the same thing, sending me into a frenzied panic about how I'd managed not to complete my application. PHEW. (I mean, not negativity, just realism: I don't expect to get into Michigan, but I would be very disappointed if my application hadn't even been looked at.)

CONGRATULATIONS

I think it's made worse because we can see other programs accepting/rejecting candidates and we want to know! At least, that's how it is for me. I'm a planning type and it's killing me that I have to tell everyone (including my very anxious partner) that I have no idea if I'll be moving to the other side of the Beltway or the other end of the country (if at all!) in the next few months. BAH.

I really struggled with some of mine, though all of them are local. I wanted to give them something thoughtful and nice. Now that the semester is started up and they aren't run down from holidays and the start of the semester, I'm going to visit a few of them with some baked goods and a note. One of them I see on a daily basis, so I'm taking her for a nice lunch. The last one is allergic to EVERYTHING (this is not really hyperbole--when I saw him last, he was undergoing extensive allergen testing to figure out what was ruining his life), but I know he eats citrus! So I sent him a nice box of seasonal oranges. Thank you gifts can be hard :c -
That's... really peculiar wording, and I'm sorry to hear it. I don't think that they could be broadly applied to anything but that one particular school, Don't let it affect your cool about the rest of the process. You've already gotten one acceptance, and that's reassurance of your capabilities as a potential graduate student.

This is my goal for this week, as well. It's a good way to pass the time while chomping at the bit.

Is anyone here familiar with the Penn State admissions process? Now that the people who received calls last week are receiving official letters by mail, I'm not sure whether to assume they're admitting first choices immediately and might admit others later, or to brace myself for a reject in a couple weeks?
-
I didn't have an application in at Berkeley, but I totally get this sentiment! It's just good to finally know. On the other hand, I don't know whether I'm more afraid of rejections or acceptances...
-
Good luck!

I think I saw one on the board that just went up, but I don't know who. Bring 'em on! Those are two of mine and I want to know!
-
Congrats to the Cornell admit! ETA: Oh, goodness, it's eerie how quickly I pick up on the lingo...
-
FWIW (and I deliberately steered clear of that conversation, so) I was pretty sure it was a joke! That said, I think one can never underestimate the capacity for human rudeness.

Gosh, the political science decisions are slow today...

How have others handled sending thank you cards to programs following admission decisions? I'd like to send a brief thank-you card to anyone at the school who has been in contact or helpful, but who receives the card thanking the department/committee/graduate school for considering my application? And are there any cases where this might not be seen as a gracious gesture, but an annoyance (or, worse, sycophantic maneuvering)?

Exactly, only mine was a cafe and more coffee. For some reason, no one ever thinks it's as funny as I do!

All I've got is a funny existential one about Rene Descartes.

The rush of adrenaline is pretty intense! Sorry to hear about the rejection, but hoping good things for you!
