True! I'm hoping I'll start to hear back in the next couple weeks. -

May I gripe about the fact that I haven't been accepted anywhere yet? sigh -

Oh man, Ruth Evans is wonderful! You're so lucky to get to work with her! Awhile back I submitted an abstract to her for a panel at a conference. It turned out that my paper didn't really fit the theme as well as I would have liked, but she gave me tons of constructive feedback. -

I'm from DC too!! Check out El Charitos in Arlington. It's my favorite pupusa place. -

This is mostly for Katia's benefit, given her research interests, but I thought the rest of you might be interested too: http://www.inthemedievalmiddle.com/2014/02/susan-crane-animal-encounters.html A nice review of Susan Crane's 'Animal Encounters' by Jeffrey Jerome Cohen. He posted this yesterday. Reading his thoughts on anthropomorphism and environmental encounters makes me wish I had sent along the marvels and bestiaries chapter of my MA thesis as a writing sample to WashU. It would have been right up his alley. sigh. -

I'm sorry about Stanford! Hopefully good things are coming for you soon. And yes, omg. Pupusas are the very best. I've learned how to make an approximation of them with Masa Repa meal and beans and cheese. The topping is just cabbage and red onion in vinegar with spices, so that's easy too. Now that I've figured out how to make them, I'm eating them a few times a week. Probably not the healthiest. -

If it's any consolation, I've heard that it's very difficult to get into one's alma mater and it is better professionally if you do grad school elsewhere. That said, good luck to you! I'm sure they still care. -

Anyone claiming that acceptance on the results board? I'd love to hear some details. -

Winner for most hardcore goes to toasterazzi. -
While waiting it out, what are you folks drinking/eating through all the stress and anxiety? Personally, I've been drinking a lot of smoked stout and eating more than my usual share of pupusas. I'm surprised I haven't gained any weight yet.

purpleperson: Thanks for that! I'm sorry to hear you cried, but you're right. This isn't the end of the world and the game isn't over yet. I only applied to four programs, but that does mean I still have a shot at the three others. Idiot that I am, I did not realize just HOW competitive Maryland was until after I submitted the application. Whoops. But there's no going back. I'm already planning to give it another shot next year if I don't get in this time. We'll be okay! Even if we're shut out of everything this year, there's always next year. -

Ignore my ranting about the website... my husband tells me that I'm being willfully ignorant about how computers work. Which...yes... may be true. I'm just so anxious to know. I had this dream that I was waitlisted and woke up still thinking it until I checked my email. I can handle being rejected, but the waiting is making me bonkers. -

I think I'm maybe about to get my rejection. When I logged into the Apra system, it told me in bright red letters, "We're sorry, but your supplemental form is not ready to be processed at this time. There was an issue retreiving your application, please try again later." I'm thinking that this perhaps means they are uploading a decision. ??? Are any of you having this issue? -

Ugh. Apparently Maryland is notifying all 20 top applicants for their 10 spots and I haven't heard a word. Sigh. -

Good luck AC!! Given the circumstances, maybe they'll overlook it. Out of curiosity, which school is it? -

Weird! The listserv seems to be almost mythical in its elusiveness. Perhaps it is just for those actively participating in the working group? I would really love to see what they talk about on a day to day basis. I had a look at the FB page and it just reinforced my adoration. It reminds me of that time I found a book of Lawrence Ferlinghetti poems in high school. It's like a little peek into a realm of weird and interesting ideas. I really hope I get into WashU. Damn. -

Ah. I've been in a relationship for fourteen years, four of which have been married years...so I really can't relate to this. I find the whole notion in that thread to be a little backwards, but I feel largely out of touch with 'dating' and being single, so I try to not pass judgement. I take it you find it all very backwards too? -
