Way to go, Kamisha! I'm sure it was a tough decision to turn down those PhD offers, but it sounds like you have things figured out for yourself. And hey, you'll be a double-MA when you're done!

I'm still waiting to hear from GWU. I finally emailed the DGS and never got a reply. So, I emailed the admissions folks and was told that my application is still under consideration. It's really frustrating, but I suspect this means I'm on a waitlist somewhere. I'm happy to wait it out for GWU, but I am definitely antsy at this point. Perhaps you're waitlisted? Have you seen both admits and rejects for your school on the boards?

Way to go AC!!! I'm so happy for you! Tell us about it. Is there a certain prof you're hoping to work with? What were your research interests again? (Feel free to PM me these answers, I know it might be a bit... open on the boards. I'd just love to hear more about what you'll be doing at NM!)

After not hearing back from the DGS, I broke down and emailed the admissions department. In a relatively short turn-around, they told me that a decision had not yet been made on my application. This seems to be rather late in the game given the April 15 decision deadline.

Well, finally got my official rejection from Maryland. Oh well.

Hi there: I applied to the PhD program with an MA in hand. I first emailed the DGS, but she never got back to me. So, I finally emailed the admissions office.

I finally heard back from GWU. They haven't rejected me yet! Of course, they haven't admitted me either... But I'm still feeling pretty good about it.

Palgrave McMillan is giving free access to all journal articles online in the month of March. If you have library access, then I'm sure you already have access to a subscription, but for those of you not currently affiliated with a university, enjoy!

Kamisha: I'm still waiting on a school too. I emailed the DGS a little over a week ago and am planning to follow up if I don't hear back by mid-week.

Got my Catholic rejection. I have one school left. Painfully, it's my top choice school that I have yet to hear from. It looks like I'll be playing a second round of this game next year.

Right so... not that I'm stalking professors or anything... but JJC posted this to his twitter: "Annals of difficult honesty: helped our best PhD admit to come to conclusion best off going elsewhere. She had 5 choices." A. Is this any of you? B. I wonder if they've contacted all their accepted applicants.

AC: Is it possible to contact University A to explain the situation? Maybe they will give you an extension to decide. I'm obviously no expert on these kinds of things, but communicating with both universities on the issue might be a good idea. Perhaps start by sending University B a polite email explaining that they are definitely your first choice, but that you have an offer from another school. I'm sure someone else on the boards will know what to do.

Do you think you'll end up doing a film studies dissertation? If so, do you have a sense of which faculty would be able to advise? Also, I bet you could propose a film studies survey course in a couple years if you do take the offer. Maybe you can bring film studies to the university!

Good luck, Kamisha! That seems like a valid reason to me. If I may ask, why are you so keen on this program if they don't have film classes? Is there a professor with whom you want to work?

Congratulations!! That's really exciting. I have not yet received a response to my email from the other day... which leaves me wondering if I sent it to the correct email address. I wonder if I'm on some weird waitlist. Or perhaps she just hasn't had time to get back to me, which I find pretty likely. I have to imagine the DGS is utterly swamped right now.

Okay, not to sound demented... but I think maybe my certain favorite prof was the one googling me. (This is psychobabble...but join me for the ride...) So, a couple days ago I noticed that someone in Silver Spring, MD had googled me. (Thanks, Academia.edu for making me neurotic.) At first I assumed this was someone from U Maryland. Well, they basically rejected me by email, so I kind of doubt it now. Yesterday, I emailed the DGS to ask about status. I never heard back, though this is likely because it was Saturday. Crazy person that I am, I was poking around the twitter feed of my favorite prof and discovered that he lives in MD. My timidly hopeful, rambling mind has posited to me that perhaps I have not heard back because they are still reaching a decision I'm wondering if they make any contact on the weekends or not. In the past, I would have assumed that they don't work at all on the weekends, but GC results have led me to believe that they are working from home or at odd hours all days of the week to get decisions out.

Well, I just sent Dr. Huang an e-mail. I'm crossing my fingers, but ugh, I have the feeling I am going to be very unhappy for the rest of the day. Either way I'm going to be on pins and needles and jumping every time I get an email.

Ah. That's a good explanation. You would think she had been presenting as female for a long while before SRS.

Wow, that is weird! And no, I hadn't noticed this. I can't fathom a proper explanation...
