  1. Don't know about UCLA. With UT Austin, being a Texas University, I know that they really like people from Texas and favor them in both admissions and funding. This isn't always the case, but they like to take on Texas residents.
  2. What makes you think VCU would send out emails this Friday? From which department? Last year I thought it was well into March before folks heard anything...
  3. Made the short list for Ohio State and was invited to their "Visitation Day" on Feb. 20th but after talking to them, decided it's not necessary to fly all the way from Los Angeles. Not attending has no bearing on their admissions decision.
  4. Yeah I need to call them tomorrow to figure out what this whole "staying with a current MFA student" thing means... I probably should go.
  5. I also was shortlisted. I want to go to the visitation day, but I need to figure out if it is worth spending the money for flights and hotel stay coming from Los Angeles....
  6. Just notified that I am a finalist for UC San Diego MFA. So relieved.
  7. I flew to SAIC a couple of years ago to interview in person because they "Strongly urged" it. I did get accepted. Its a good idea to fly out there if you are unfamiliar with the school/city, can afford it, and are serious about the program, but I don't think its necessary and I don't think it hurts your chances of being accepted if you have a good interview. Frankly, I think its a little rude for schools to expect everyone to fly out for an in person interview.
  8. I feel the same about making good/better work after submitting the application. I think a lot of programs, if you make it to the secondary stages of the application process, will look at your website if you provided it. I have used google analytics and have had a couple of very particular locations which are most likely Universities look at my site.
  9. Not to be a downer, but I do want to warn people about the SAIC grad program. I'm sure it's a fantastic school, I got in to two different programs. But it is hugely expensive and they don't give very much money. Just something to think about.
  10. No need to be antsy I think. The deadline was only dec 31st. And most programs don't notify you for at least a month
  11. This years.... but I haven't received anything official, neither email or mail. He said they would probably send out something this coming week.
  12. This is my second year applying to programs. Last year I go into RISD and SAIC, but couldn't afford to go ($41,000 a year!, what was I thinking?) I got wait listed at UT Austin and VCU last year as well. I just finished submitting everything yesterday. Just have to wait and see... I did however, get a call from Ohio State University, saying they really liked my work and that I was on a very short short-list. So that's nice. But I would like other programs to say the same thing. Applying to Sculpture programs at: UCLA UC Irvine UC San Diego UC Berkeley USC Ohio State University VCU *I relocated to Los Angeles this summer, thus the California heavy applications My Work: www.coreypatrickdunlap.com
  13. Femnotfem, I am very surprised that you are choosing Indiana U-Bloomington over Cornell. Can you explain why?
  14. AH! So I was accepted to RISD Sculpture, but I assumed a while ago that it wouldn't be possible because they only gave me $13,000 for a tuition of $41,000. But I waited until the very end to see if any more funding would become available. And now they have given me $20,000. Quite an increase, but it would still require me to take out A LOT in loans. I like the school a lot, I know it is prestigious and has a good reputation. But we are still talking about $40,000 in loans. I live in Boston, and I kinda want a change, both academically and regionally. I don't know that I can pull the trigger, but I don't want to be shit out of luck next year if I apply to other schools and don't get in/get enough money... Thoughts?
  15. Well, though I was wait listed for VCU I imagine it is too late now. I was accepted to RISD and SAIC, but both are $40,000 a year and I received minimal funding. Plus, though the programs are good, its not worth the money. Next year again...
  16. Well I just found out I was moved from the waitlist and officially accepted to RISD -sculpture. No word on financial aid yet, it is so expensive though...
  17. So this year I had interviews with 4 out of the 5 programs I applied to, and was wait-listed for 3 of them. So obviously someone is interested. Perhaps I just need a bit more time. After having all these interviews, I think being able to present yourself is vital. Would it be reasonable to reapply to a program where I was previously wait listed? Or would the results probably be the same? Of course I plan to work hard on making my practice and subsequent application better than this past year. I have heard of people reapplying to programs they were previously rejected from and being accepted the second time around (Yale specifically). Thoughts?
  18. Accepted to SAIC Masters of Fine Arts in Designed Objects. Happy, but no word on funding yet. I got into the sculpture department last year and they gave me some financial aid, but I still would have needed to take out an ungodly amount of loans... sigh.
  19. As someone who has been wait-listed for 3 schools, I want to send a friendly nudge to everyone who has been accepted and might be deciding on programs. UT Austin- Wailtlsted-sculpture VCU- Waitlisted-sculpture RISD- Waitlisted-sculpture SAIC- waiting to hear-MFA designed objects UCLA- rejection-sculpture
  20. Wait listed for RISD, VCU, and UT Austin. Don't know how to feel.
