  1. Haha yea I think we're all too deep in it for our fix to disappear this season. I think just a quick reply would do fine. Nothing fancy. Thanks for the encouragement, information, etc. Reiterate how much you'd want to be a part of the program etc. etc. I'm touchy about having contact with professors for fear of seeming overeager, but it varies discipline to discipline. I
  2. Just curious. I'll take a bunch of nos for sure. I applied in EPOL.
  3. Exactly. I've never been bothered by the tone of a rejection, honestly. The more impersonal, the more room for me to rationalize less and less depressing reasons for my rejection.
  4. I feel like this limited results checking thing could really get some momentum here...
  5. My fiance and I just started Dexter a few days ago. Already on the second season... We're snowed in in Atlanta.
  6. I can't think of a more accurate statement of my existence ever.
  7. Yeah I'm sure they'll take their sweet time. They must be done in terms of inviting people to interview though right? Someone just put me down please.
  8. Final decisions yeah. I was referring to interview invitations. Someone mentioned that they were going to be inviting people to interview into February, but I have the feeling that that process is over.
  9. I'm easy to please. One or two bars with a few local brews, some good indian food, and a movie theater will pretty much do me. It differs wildly field to field, but if you're being responsible about your future, you have to realize that the program reputation is going to make a much bigger difference in your life than a few years in a shitty town. Trade-offs, etc. I'm not a rankings junky, by any means, and I actually think they're mostly bullshit, but the reality is that they matter to your job prospects.
  10. Have you tried this "beer" thing? It really is terrible though, and it never gets any better. I feel like I'm almost having my most obsessive season ever, and this is, on one way of counting, my third go round on this (MA, PhD, and now an attempted transfer).
  11. Does anyone else laugh reading the description of this forum? As if waiting for decisions only increases the frequency with which I check my e-mail by just ten per day. Maybe like ten a minute.
  12. So Harvard's gotta be done right? Anyone gotten an explicit rejection from them yet?
  13. So here's a hypothetical that I may or may not be faced with soon. My fiancé and I are applying to the same programs. We are unwilling to split up (duh) and we're hoping to strike gold and both get accepted somewhere. There are a few programs for which each of us are better fits than the other, i.e. one of us probably has a better chance of getting in than the other. Here's the question: if one of us gets into a program and the other doesn't, but we have reason to believe that the program in question really really wants the one of us that they accepted, should we try to find some way to haggle with them to somehow get both of us in (maybe a conditional acceptance or something of the like)? Is this too fishy? Does it have a chance of working? Other thoughts?
