Semi-finalist! o snap, the real pain begins.... *edit: for Hindi
-
I wonder how many of us are semi-finalists...It could make for an interesting study on application success relative to expressive and communal anxiety-tendencies....
-
Thanks for the info, though! It must be a result of the glitch in November. What's scarier is.....if we DO get chosen as a semi-finalist....I wonder if the final results will come later, too....o.o That's the worst part
-
*sigh* officially the half-way mark through January. Yes, I'm a maniac....but any day now! Anyone else here for Hindi (or Urdu)?
-
This feels like an extension of the lottery, gleaning from the nation's current preoccupation....I think I have the same feelings as a ticket buyer
-
Thanks, kpalm!! It's good to have a fairly solid ETA, though this is definitely the hardest part...><
-
YES! And if anyone gets bold enough to ask when we might expect some news...do share! <3
-
this is going to be agonizing!! as soon as anyone hears, i hope you let us know here on this funny forum.
-
And wIll they let the rejects off easy? As in, will we have to wait till After the first round of acceptances till we find out we're not in? I hate to sound pessimistic...but hopes are high
-
All of these posts have been so helpful/informative, and gloriously distracting. I think this is going to be a lifeline until decisions come out....Anyone with experience in India here?
-
Jee, then why have that process at all?
-
Has anyone ever been cut as a semifinalist (like me)?? I have a sense of foreboding like none other for this round! I wonder why they let people know that they're semi-finalists when ultimately half of them will be cut...it's brutal.
-
haha! what a qualifier for Hindi! Good luck E.marina...I wonder if that means we're 'competing' against each other. I chose intermediate, but I've only ever done independent study...have you ever applied to CLS before? Your reasons sound really good/viable
-
That's a great way to reconcile that question--honest and open! Have you ever applied before? If so, do you sense a difference between your applications, then and now? I'm currently a grad student in literary translation, and was fortunate enough to work with a Pakistani poet and his work. I wonder how many applicants are more humanities-based...
-
archimon, i'd love to hear people answer that! Especially those that succeeded after previously 'failling'....when I got cut as a semi-finalist, I had written all the essays in a stream-of-consciousness, without much reflection...I was working on a huge thesis at the time and applying to grad school. I wish I knew what precisely changed their minds about me at that point. Maybe it was hard to gauge my willingness to commit? ...I really hope I've fixed that, though it's all pretty abstract, in the end...
-
I hope CLS applicants find/use this thread! Maybe it can be a commiserating-comfort space... I'm applying for intermediate Hindi, and applied for the '14 program as an undergrad but only reached the semi-finalist level. That's the worst, let me tell ya!
-
o.O How did you get into all those schools, please?!
-
Which would YOU choose??? Iowa's MFA in Lit Translation, or Notre Dame for Poetry (with Some translation)??? It almost serms like Notre Dame has better funding, and it's only two years long, vs. Iowa's four year program eith a seemingly heavy courseload. Ahhh!
-
How would you compare U of Oregon to Oregon State? Is it as incredible? I applied to UO, and am still waiting for a response...
-
About Brown: pretty solid rumor claiming that Brown's Poetry committee has already contacted the people they're interested in....

Neat, it's cool to hear from you guys. *Interviews* are a horror show. I had one for a Phd program the other day, and everyone that Could go wrong Did. Literally a nightmare. Yea, it would be great if there was a group or something of Mundus prospective students and/are alumni...last year I was accepted to Mundus but with no scholarship. But today I got an informal email from the program director which said they were finalizing decisions next week but he could "already tell" me that I was in a "very strong place"..... Ideally, I'd get the MA and move into a Phd program in Comp Lit. I wonder what it's like to live on a different campus almost every semester, and how feasible it is to develop a third language before your final semester...maybe it's not the same for non-litt master's..Cheers!
-
I wish I could find other people that know about or have applied to an Erasmus Mundus program. I've applied to the Crossways in Cultural Narratives, and would love to commiserate with others! Does anyone know about this program? It seems Awesome, yet strangely a secret....? Come out of the woodwork, fellow applicants!

*Three minutes after interview's conclusion* Dear God, that was h-e-l-l-i-s-h. My pits are drenched, and its 0 degrees where I am right now. Seriously.... THANK YOU for your inexorably kind words, fellow strangers, fellow humans! Here's a bit of an inside (for what it's worth): They asked me to define what I wanted to do BEYOND what I included in my PS and WS. Pretty much, "how 'bout choose something completely unrelated to everything you've done for the last two years.....starting.....NOW!" There were three of them in the room, and I'm pretty sure two of them were texting each other parodies of me featuring little cat videos....the horrrrrrorrrrrr! But, really, thanks, you guys.
-
Oh my effing lord.....HOW did I claim *intermediate*-level proficiency in German, Portuguese, and Urdu?!?! I'm just reading over my very dusty Comp Lit statement, with an hour to go before the interview, and must somehow become a polyglot in as much time..WHYYYYYYYYYY
-
Gah! This thread is a healing balm. I have an interview scheduled this Thursday for CUNY's Grad Center Comp Lit program. I'm freaking out. Fortunately, though, I've already been accepted to a Great program (though an MFA in Poetry/Translation instead of a Phd...). But still freaking out. The email says that FOUR professors want to interview me...is that normal? You'd think one would be intimidating enough...especially via Skype. I hope they don't expect me to name drop and speak in three languages....
