  1. Officially wondering if there will be a re-awakening of applicants this go-around....
  2. Hi, everyone! I was hoping to glean from the knowledge/experience of my fellow GradCafe freaks... Does anyone know of a FUNDED Masters program in Comparative Literature??? I'm having trouble with my search. Last go-around, I was accepted to SUNY Binghamton's program, but with an insufficient financial package... Thanks!!!!!!
  3. You should look into clay works collectives. There are like three in my town and I'm seriously in the middle of nowhere. It's a shared space with all the ceramic-fixings, and you just pay, like, $20 a month. Where there's a will there's a way! If none exist in your area, go to a school and tell them what you're about; they won't turn you down. edit: Even my middle school had kilns.
  4. You are not defined by your acceptances! You've gotten this far, which is amazing considering how many people don't even have the opportunity to finish high school. Just take it as a learning opportunity, grow from it, and improve your application for next round. It probably wouldn't hurt to identify an admissions committee member and eek out some advice from them... Are you from a non-US country?
  5. chub bun, that face is disturbing. You can look at it thinking of any emotion, and it creepily fits. Dankar, I asked about Emerson a little while back, and heard that they give almost no financial support to MFA cw students...I applied there, too, but am not holding my breath for the decision... MoJouiced! Your brain sounds like a fun place to be right now XD
  6. Do you have any other options for this Fall? Was that the last notification you were waiting for?
  7. I bet you know how good it is to hear that!
  8. I guess that's what happens when you put a bunch of "poets" in a forum! There's enough proof out there to confirm that if you want something enough you'll find a way to bloody well get it! I'm a firm believer in the not-giving-up thing.
  9. Awesome. I was seriously trying to figure out where that still came from...it looks just like someone I know. Your signature made me laugh...a real laugh. I think it has something to do with the all-caps.
  10. Yes, maybe we still have time to woo the admissions committee! We could ambush them with awe-inducing poems that'll blow their freaking minds!!!
  11. Yes! I think I'm going to intern at Monet's nenuphar nursery in the South of France. Nothing to do with writing but it sure sounds fun!
  12. I feel like I'm just ripping open a still-festering wound by saying this... I just called Monica Nees at Indiana (she seems youthfully nice and bureaucratically open) with a real-life phone and she said that the applications committee stands by the April 15th deadline, and that while first decisions have been made, there are still more to make. I don't even know what to feel anymore. I'm SOOO glad to know that awesome people are out there keeping the dream alive! Keep writing, peeps, and my sincere congratulations to those that found a program this go-around!
  13. Gee, I think I'm going to miss this little gang here, once it's all over!
  14. This is hormonally incredible. The people who run this admissions machine must be in charge at Gitmo (...too soon?) And we have no way of knowing how many applicants AREN'T addicted therefore submitting results to gradcafe....why would they notify waitlisters first??
  15. If only, man!
  16. Oh Golly, someone's posted a waitlist @ Indiana on the results page...
  17. If anyone's still out there... Have you applied/heard from UMass Amherst for CompLit?? It's been more than 3 months since the app closed, I'm pining for communication!
  18. Hi! In my fever-inducing craze I wonder if anyone else has applied to UMass' CompLit program! I've heard absolutely nothing since the December something'th deadline, and it's torture! Besides that on the Comp Lit front, I've been accepted to Erasmus Mundus Crossways in Cultural Narratives (waitlisted for funding) and SUNY Binghamton (awaiting funding news)......
  19. ^ YES
  20. Seriously, it feels like we're those last violinists on the Titanic. We believe so fully in the art of our torture that we'll go to the very bottom of the sea with it! Constant vigilance!!!!!
  21. That sounds like a plan. OH the impending dooooom!
  22. I don't think Columbia has sent out rejections yet....based on the fact hat I haven't gotten mine yet...;p
  23. If anyone's waiting with bated breath for Columbia's email, they said it "should be going out in the next week or so"....
  24. I would give this wizened advice: Don't get Carried Away. I've emailed this one particular adcomm (I think that's the expression used here) once every since late January. I think she's got my name/email memorized by now, and has figured out that I'm too neurotic for grad school.... My trigger-response is so connected to my endorphin at this point, that I just do it for the high.....
  25. Well, I can say one thing in response to this: I interned for the US Department of State, in the foreign service section, and they said that applicants for the foreign service with Peace Corps experience have an advantage. They're looking for people who have "been there" and have worked hands on. For the rest of your questions, someone else will probably have a better perspective.
